One of the most meaningful messages I saw at the Fragile Forest exhibit which I hoped these idiot real estate developers all over the world, and especially in Dubai, would see and understand.Sorry for the poor focus, it is probably symbolic of the hocus focus foresight of these greedy property developers who care only about money and nothing about the environment! (Singapore, Oct. 2009) (Actually, I was using a camera with a very small viewfinder by today's standards, so the focus appeared good enough on the tiny LCD screen).
I was looking at this photo I took some time ago and was thinking about the fragility of this beautiful flower/plant and about the soft light that seems to be radiating from it. It made me think of the fragility of life and of the beauty of the soul. It also made me think of love, compassion and healing. Given the terrible situation in Japan I felt it appropriate then to dedicate this image along with my prayer for Japan. I pray to God to work through nature and through the people around the world to help the people and all sentient beings of Japan and to stop any further devastation of this kind there or anywhere else around the world.
Further thoughts - 6 days later 18/3/11 – A silver lining. Following the news/developments about Japan, my thoughts, admiration and prayers also go out to the workers and rescuers (true heros) who have gone into the heart of danger to rescue and save further lives from danger. Acts such as these along with the way people all around the world are uniting to help and support Japan is a wonderful and beautiful confirmation of the power of goodness and love that unites us all around the world.
Another example of this and of the strength and spirit of the people of Japan comes from some very moving stories quoted by my kind friend Bridgy in her tribute to Japan. You can see her beautiful tribute and the stories for yourself in her photostream on www.flickr.com/photos/bridgy2008/

Recently I photographed a friend of mine who is pregnant, we experimented with different props, materials and angles. This was one of my favourites that i might use for a project I'm doing at the moment at college based around 'traces', she is nude and wrapped in 'fragile' tape which is used for postage. I changed the image in photoshop to make the word 'fragile' on the tape stand out at the point where it is spread across her belly. It is common to have mothers-to-be photographed nude or wrapped in fabric etc so i tried to chose something that i thought would be different and bold that said more than 'aww' when the viewer saw it. Red is most eye catching as our brains assume its warning us or signalling danger thats why many signs are in red, the writing on the tape was originally red so after making it brighter i excluded it from the change of the image whilst making it black and white. I think a lot of people are unaware of the risks there are whilst pregnant and I hope this image could make a possible awareness to people.
One of my favourite sections of the Singapore zoo: here is the entrance to the Fragile Forest. It gives you, as the second board (seen here) says, a true rainforest experience. You find a recreated rainforest behind that mesh door, where, to the sound of a babbling brook, you have a rich collection of rainforest vegetation along with some free ranging animals. The vegetation inside was much more lush in 2009 than it was on my previous 2002 visit, hence making it difficult to spot some of the free ranging animals like the mouse deer, which I had seen in 2002. (Singapore, Oct. 2009.)
One of the small butterflies, "small blues", of the Polyommatini tribe, feeding on the leptospermum petersonii flowers.
This is processed with a preset called 'Yesteryear'. I rather like it as it reminds me of Japanese shadow puppetry.

A delightful wooded trail inside the Fragile Forest exhibit does give you the impression of walking inside a dense tropical rainforest. I encountered several animals beside the trail itself on my 2002 visit, unfortunately in 2009 I could see very fee. A running stream inside the exhibit fills the area with the melodious sound of a babbling brook, which makes for a very serene and peaceful experience and being one with nature. (Oct. 2009)

It's been a while since my last posting of this leaf. I'm pleasantly surprised to see that this beauty has survived so long. The fragility increases daily. Winter has come and gone and I'm hoping for more time together before the landscapers do their spring trimming.
The first shots I took of this leaf were in April and May of 2010 www.flickr.com/photos/aristaria/4602900863/in/set-7215762....
Okay, so here's the thing. There's this artist? Franck de Las Mercedes? His project is, he paints boxes and sends them to people with labels like "contains strength" or "contains tranquility." He does this for free. Any time anyone asks him to send a box, he (eventually) sends a box.
Here's the catch: You can only request one. EVER.
I found out about this here on Flickr and requested one for a friend of mine who (1) is a serious art appreciator and (2) could use a little boost these days.
I told people about it and someone sent me one. And yeah: These days, I could use it.
When something so fragile can raise from stones, it teaches us about courage, hope and life itself.
Here. I always will be set.
Actually the roses are still fine but on this photo, I wanted to try to express the fragile of the beauty.

Simplemente un macro que me gustó mucho como quedó.

This is an immature female Fragile Forktail based on the illustration in Ed Lam's beautifully illustrated "Damselflies of the Northeast." He lists this very small species as being 21 - 29 mm or .8 - 1.1 inches long.
The damselfly was near several others including a male with green markings in a brushy area at the edge of a lake. The markings that look like an exclamation mark on the shoulder allow it to be identified in the field.
I spotted quite a few dragonflies and butterflies in the Dutch Gap area including Zebra Swallowtails. Several Yellow-throated Warblers were singing along the 5-mile loop path at this park.

For Self Portrait Challenge -- 'Upside Down'
First ttv Self Portrait I've tried. It wasn't too bad. I had to set the tlr on the floor and set up the D40 on a tripod facing straight down into the contraption. The remote did the rest.
A frame from what I actually ended up doing for my first photobook project, tracking time and change in a domestic space by following the same shadow. Those who follow me have seen a few shots of this plant's shadow just in the last month.

The sun destroyed the hoar frost and quickly melted the fragile ice crystals, but not before some beautiful pieces of winter cover were highlighted.

A piece called’Fragile’.I’ve went through a lot with my body over the years.I starved it and cut it during my teens due to my depression.I had it abused by my abuser cooperlock during the age of 16-18.Since then I’ve tried to come to terms with the fact my body is disabled and that that is ok.I’ve had to come to terms with how feminine it is as a non-binary person. My body is fragile like flowers but slowly I’m learning to see it as beautiful like flowers too.
