Repurposed brooch made of found objects (Vintage & used food packaging with Asian motifs). Commissioned by 'artisan' QLD for "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor" (100th Anniversary International Women's Day) travelling exhibition, various Australian Regional Galleries, 2011-2014.
This cherub consists of an old soldering iron, a figurine's head, doll arms, plastic wings, watch parts and a sculpted body. 2011.

woohoo I finished all 21 with two to spare. I'm rather pleased with how they came out. They're made of watch parts and a vintage mother of pearl button. you can barely see the tiny gears also used but they're there.
I made this from the polystyrene packaging that came round the tumble-drier, and painted it with PVA paints.
It has the function of muffling the sound from the vent into the downstairs loo. The vent was made to hold a fan and pipe according to building regs, but we got away without during the inspection! It is unnecessary and so there is just a hole, which before I made this acted as a megaphone!
This construction is also a tribute to retirement and the luxury of making unsaleable works! It is quite exciting making useless objects.
