La Fortezza in questione è la cosiddetta "Prima Torre" della Repubblica di San Marino, sulla cima del Monte Titano a 739m di altezza e a soli 13km in linea d'aria dal Mare Adriatico.

The Fortress in question is the so-called "First Tower" of the Republic of San Marino (inside Italy), on the top of Mount Titano at 739m above sea level and only 13km as the crow flies from the Adriatic Sea.
Orvieto was already glowing when I settled onto a rampart of Fortezza Albornoz. A ridge of the Apennines held the sunrise for a few heartbeats, then light spilled over the range, bathing the fortress wall in gold and stirring the valley below to life. From this perch you can glimpse the city’s modern edge - highway, rail line, and the Paglia River - yet inside these ancient walls everything feels hushed and timeless.
The day before had been pure Umbrian pleasure: weaving through medieval lanes, studying classical art, lingering over a pizza lunch with a chilled glass of Orvieto Classico, then trading stories over local reds and a final splash of amaro with a growing circle of new friends.
Morning brought its own gentle ritual. We swung the hotel windows wide, letting bells and birdsong ride the cool breeze straight inside. I laced up for a jog but soon drifted into easy wandering. Historic facades, sculptures, and cliff-edge vistas blend art and nature into a single, seamless spectacle. It felt like a saturation point of beauty, the kind that overflows the senses and leaves room only to look up in quiet praise to the Lord.
Later we stepped into a thousand-year-old church perched on the opposite wall of the city - another moment of threefold splendor: art-filled interiors, distinctive architecture from an earlier age, and wide natural vistas of Umbrian countryside where stone cottages and cypress spires dotted the rolling green like a living postcard.
This photograph, one of many from my time there, tries to hold on to those layered moments: ancient stones, new friendships, and a sunrise that filled the soul.
The Fortezza is the citadel of the city of Rethymno in Crete, Greece. It was built by the Venetians in the 16th century, and was captured by the Ottomans in 1646. By the early 20th century, many houses were built within the citadel. These were demolished after World War II, leaving only a few historic buildings within the Fortezza. Today, the citadel is in good condition and is open to the public.

Ich bin immer noch krank und wir haben immer noch Familienbesuch. Ich fühle mich ein wenig, wie auf einem steilen Weg, aber auch der hat Schönes.
I am still ill and we have still visitors from the family. I feel a bit like on a steep path but there is also beauty on the path.

Cats in Crete provide countless iconic images of Greece and Greek Island life - whole calendars are devoted to them, and you can see prints, photographs and paintings depicting felines of all shapes and sizes, cleverly composed against backgrounds of brightly coloured doors, windows and flower pots, or in the arms of children.
Many visitors to Greece are struck by the sight of legions of cats roaming the streets, dosing in the sun at archaeological sites (as here), and loitering around tavernas looking for a handout. Seen here is the youngest of several who had made one of the few shaded areas of the Fortezza of Rethymno their haunt that afternoon.

The Old Fortress of Livorno (Italian: Fortezza Vecchia di Livorno) is a successor building to a medieval fort built by the city of Pisa in the location of an older keep built by Countess Matilda of Tuscany in the 11th century. The 11th century tower was incorporated inside the fort built by the Pisans.

The Franzensfeste Fortress was planned and built between 1833 and 1838, it was one of the most secure fortresses in the Alps at its time – yet was never put to the test. The 65,000-square meter fortress has a gigantic maze comprising rooms, corridors and stairs on a 20-hectare site, built out of millions of bricks and granite blocks against an enemy that never came.
View looking South from the North Gate of the Fortezza of Rethymno. The Fortezza dominates the hill of Palekastro beside the old town of Rethymno and is one of the biggest fortresses of the Venetian Era. It has been built on the site of the citadel of ancient Rithimna and the Temple of Artemis Rokkea. The grand pentagonal fort was built in the year of 1573 and has a perimeter which is some 1300m long.
The Fortezza dominates the port area of the city with a star-shaped wall formation, three gates and six towering bastions. In the centre of the Fortezza complex is the church of Agios Nikolaos, later turned into the Mosque of the Sultan Ibrahim Han. There are also the remains of houses, barracks, stables, ammunition stores, and a cistern.
