Bright summer vista on colorful rock formations @ Zion National Park (Springdale - South Unit), southwest Utah.
This is a sight I had never seen before last year, Gannets flying in tight formation the crucial thing is the date March 1st . Its not a great shot but I wanted to keep a record
We had gone to Bempton just to walk the cliff tops not really expecting much bird activity . However a RSPB warden told us that the Gannets were just beginning to the return to the cliffs and they arrive back in large groups . When they have mated they tend to hunt individually
Northern Gannets mate for life. Young birds reach maturity between the ages of four and five. They begin breeding between March and April. Northern Gannets mainly breed in colonies and breeding sites, also called “gannetries”, on cliffs and offshore islands. They tend to stay loyal to their breeding sites and return to the colony they were born in. Experienced adults usually arrive at the breeding grounds earlier than juveniles, to re-bond with their mate and to defend their territory against rival seabirds.
Their migration routes differ depending on their age. The timing and duration of their migration could also substantially change the geographical location of “gannetries” can also influence the migration patterns of this seabird.
THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT TO MY STREAM.
I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU COULD NOT FAVE A PHOTO
WITHOUT ALSO LEAVING A COMMENT .
It had rained so the sand had a dimpled look and on some shots it actually looks almost lacey. I thought it would be so easy and in truth is was physically easy but composition lets many down imho but never mind I thoroughly enjoyed myself. My dogs did their utmost best to ruin my shots but the ones i shall upload are happily paw print free..:)

End of the day sunset light there on the amazing formations in the Badlands ... just impressive to see and splendid under these lighting conditions.
the mute swans had a good year with 7 cygnets. here are three of them following mom. Overcast, low cover day
This was taken a couple of weeks ago ... the ice is all gone now and the long winter is becoming a distant memory. We had a hot week last week with 30C + but it has cooled down again ... it's getting close to zero at night so Rosa is covering her gardens and potted plants to protect against frost.

Durch Wind und Wetter klingt das Fliegerlied:
Flieger, grüß mir die Sonne
Grüß mir die Sterne und grüß mir den Mond
Dein Leben, das ist das Schweben
Durch die Ferne, die keiner bewohnt.

I wanted to do this for ages but never got around to fiddling with different pieces to hold the shields in place... When the hiker and that face was released, i had to do it :)
Several sections of interesting eroded rock formations are along the Cottonwood Canyon Road. Wilbur is on top of the formation on the far left.
Terrace formations at Mammoth Hot Springs area in Yellowstone National Park. Not sure exactly how these how these terrace-like formations develop, but they look really cool!
Watching the sheer beauty of Brown Pelicans 'in formation' will always catch my attention and awe of these prehistoric looking birds but when they are in breeding colors it's a double "WOW" for me.
I just noticed the 3rd one back has very little gold on the head!?

Happy Textural Tuesday!
Another shot from my visit to Welcombe Mouth Beach the other week. Maybe not the most exciting photo in the world but I really loved the way the rock formations were layered in the cliff face here. I took a few shots showing the details of the rock but settled on this one with a tiny cave at the bottom of it giving some contrast to the rest of the cliff face. Sometime simple things can look quite interesting don't you think?
