You fling the window open and the room is instantly flooded with this outer, peal-laden haze, which is part damp oxygen, part coffee and prayers. No matter what sort of pills, and how many, you've got to swallow this morning, you feel it's not over for you yet. No matter, by the same token, how autonomous you are, how much you've been betrayed, how thorough and dispiriting is your self-knowledge, you assume there is still hope for you, or at least a future. (Hope, said Francis Bacon, is a good breakfast but a bad supper.)
A 30 foot high waterfall on the South Fork Tieton River, Yakima County, Washington. I used a variable neutral density filter for most of the waterfall photos.

My first opportunity to catch autumn colours in the woods nearby.
I used a polarization filter to block the reflected light from the wet leaves.
Forkers is an incredibly popular burger restaurant in 東區 here in Taipei. Hour waits are not uncommon and they've since opened a second shop near Zhongshan MRT station to similar demand.
And why? I have no earthly idea other than to think Taiwanese people have broken burger taste buds.
I tried two burgers that night and they were both godawful in opposite ways. One was doused in seasoning and the other was devoid of taste.
The regular cheese burger was dry and way over seasoned with all kinds of flavorings to mask the lack of flavor of the cheap beef they use.
The other burger I tried was advertised as a Wagyu beef burger. I assume they realize you don't over season good beef but I don't think they even bothered salting it. There was no flavor whatsoever. Plus it was also dry and I highly doubt the beef they used was true Wagyu. I've had Wagyu beef, and it has good flavors even if you don't season it at all. This was just bland cheap beef. Minus the salt, add on the dryness, mix in some cheap fake Wagyu, what you get is a cardboard tasting patty.
Going back to why this place is so freaking popular? I can only assume that Taiwanese people like the TGIF-like decoration and colorful photo-filled menus. I much rather think of my compatriots as having no taste in decoration than having no taste in food.

A red-eyed all-black upright bird with a narrow tail that splays out into a fork. Pairs and singles occasionally join mixed-species flocks in a variety of wooded and open country, although they avoid forest. The species sits in the canopy and midstory, hawking insects from a perch, and it sometimes associates with large mammals, eating prey that they flush. It is loud and noisy, singing a variety of unmelodic, noisy, and mechanical notes, sometimes including imitations of other bird species.
The fork is certainly not the first utensil that comes to mind when you want to taste honey, but finally, why not? Maybe a contradiction or an unconscious way to eat less? Who knows ?! For me, this acacia's honey was delicious ... Hmm (m)! ;-)

Hmm(m) ! ;-)
This photo makes it quite easy to ID the drongo showing both the forked tail and the red eye that is indicative of the species.

It was out with the cutlery today to try and capture that most magical of eating tools - the fork!!

Shot for Macro Mondays, theme "Forks".
I have this unusual set of miniature forks, inherited from my mother. They are so small that even an olive is difficult to carry with one of these. I wonder why she bought them, never saw them used in my childhood.
Of the total set I arranged 10, and using the Focus Bracketing option on my camera made 100 shots, stacked in Helicon Focus. Some minor corrections in Lightroom in post.
Happy MM everybody
"West Fork Subway:" Not as busy as a New York subway of course, as this one has flooded passages deterring most hikers from crossing through, and despite my wearing waterproof thick socks, my toes were freezing pretty badly wading through this area. I tend to get frostbitten fingers and toes ridiculously quickly, as too many past experiences have taught me. I would have rather waited maybe another 45 minutes for better light, but thought it wouldn't be worth my losing some toes, as it was an unseasonably cold and windy day when I took this image, despite how warm and sunny it looks here, and I had already been in the water for over an hour; not to mention, I still needed to hike a few miles back to the car! Hopefully you still enjoy. With all the constant wind channeling through here, it took a while to capture fairly unperturbed reflections.
