In the Middle Ages, a knight was walking along a river with his lover. While picking a bunch of flowers, he fell into the water due to the weight of his armor. As he was drowning he threw the bunch of flowers to his lover and shouted "Don't forget me". This flower is associated with romance and tragedy and was often worn by women as a sign of fidelity and infinite love.
