watch video here Kyle Gerckin, head of the caster department at Wendell August: American Made Gifts in Grove City, PA shows how to pour pewter into a custom-made mold to create an ornament. Next to its flagship store featuring hand-hammered metal gift items, the forge, in operation since 1923, is open to the public and offers tours. According to Gerckin, the pewter mixture Wendell August buys as ingots and melts down is composed of 90 percent tin, bismuth for its bonding properties, copper and a little bit of silver. The advantage of pewter, Gerckin says, is that it looks like silver but is less expensive and easy to work with.

I was able to get out last weekend to take some pictures (first time in weeks), but, unfortunately, it's not quite peak fall foliage season here. Oh well. I'll have to get out again in a few weeks. Several rolls of 6x7 are currently being processed, but here are a few video clips for now.

We walked around the Southern Gospel Music Association Museum. Then we ate lunch at Granny's buffet. Next we listened to Dolly Parton's relatives, Dolly's Family Reunion, play and sing at the Back Porch Theatre. We walked into and out of many shops in Craftsman Valley. We planned to see the "Wings of America" show, but bad weather caused the show to be cancelled. Then we sat by the lake watching the ducks and enjoyed a funnel cake with strawberries. Unfortunately, I lost 51 of my last pictures and won't be uploading them.
