Populus nigra, the black poplar, is a species of cottonwood poplar, the type species of section Aigeiros of the genus Populus, native to Europe, southwest and central Asia, and northwest Africa. The black poplar is a medium- to large-sized deciduous tree, reaching 20–30 m, and rarely 40 m tall. The Thredbo River rises below South Rams Head, near Mount Leo within the Kosciuszko National Park. The river flows generally adjacent to the Alpine Way, west and northwest near Dead Horse Gap, then generally north, passing through the village of Thredbo, joined by four tributaries including the Little Thredbo River, before emptying into Lake Jindabyne, impounded by Jindabyne Dam. Within Lake Jindabyne, the river reaches its confluence with the Snowy River. The river descends 649 metres over its 40 kilometres course. The flow of the river is impacted by alpine conditions; with high flows during spring as a result of snow melt. Meanwhile, during winter, the river is subject to snow and ice conditions. 27627

Premier sport fish are bred and raised at Gaden Trout Hatchery. The Gaden Trout Hatchery, located on the Thredbo River near Jindabyne, is one of Australia's main centres for breeding and rearing cold water sport fish. Four species of fish are produced at Gaden: Atlantic salmon, brook trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout. Visitors can view feeding of the big fish that come to the surface in some of the brood stock ponds, watch a 10 minute video that outlines the purpose and operations of the hatchery, and go for a walk around the grounds with one of the experienced hatchery staff. Guided tours of the hatchery are conducted 10am and 2pm daily. Gaden Trout Hatchery has over one hectare of parkland on the banks of the Thredbo River. 27592

Jindabyne is a town in south-east New South Wales, Australia that overlooks Lake Jindabyne near the Snowy Mountains, in Snowy Monaro Regional Council. It is a popular holiday destination year round, especially in winter. This is due to its proximity to major ski resort developments within the Kosciuszko National Park, including Thredbo, Perisher and Charlotte Pass. Originally situated on land that is now under Lake Jindabyne, the township was transferred to its present location in the 1960s due to the construction of Jindabyne Dam, on the Snowy River, as part of the Snowy Mountains Scheme. At the 2016 census, Jindabyne had a population of 2,629 people. The town's name is derived from an aboriginal word meaning valley. Jindabyne is one of the highest settlements of its size in Australia, at 918 metres above sea level. Light snowfalls sometimes occur during winter. In mid-July in 2004 and 2005, snow fell up to half a metre following freak snowfalls over a large area of New South Wales. Jindabyne is connected to the surrounding area by Kosciuszko Road & North via Canberra, the Alpine Way West to the Riverina and Wodonga and the Barry Way to the South and Gippsland. 27628

It was nice to get back up in the hills. This is a shot overlooking the William O. Douglas Wilderness in Washington State.

A Santa Fe Warbonnet and an H1 are the power for a Q-FTMNWH waiting behind two eastbounds before being interchanged with CSX. Around the corner is Bridge 9C, a former swing bridge over the Sanitary and Ship Canal built in 1899 by Carnegie Steel. It originally carried four tracks over the canal and was converted into a swing bridge by the Navy during World War II to allow passage of Balao and Gato-class submarines built in Manitowoc towards the Gulf of Mexico.

Nice autumn-winter forestview.

Not only is the view of these mountains beautiful by the lake, but also its a sight to see as you emerge from within the aspen as you hike through the forest.

First comment box below has the iconic view with the lake reflection to view if you choose.

Golden rays of the rising sun pierce through the towering cliffs of Yosemite Valley, casting a warm glow across the flowing Merced River. With El Capitan standing tall to the left and Cathedral Rocks on the right, this breathtaking moment captures the raw beauty and power of nature at dawn in Yosemite National Park.

The morning sun breaks through the trees, casting a golden glow over the green meadows. Cows graze peacefully as the light adds a touch of magic to everything. It’s one of those moments where nature makes you pause, and everything feels perfectly in balance. Just pure serenity.

I spent a lot of time in nature at the beginning of this week – gathering with my favourite friends on Monday, admiring the way the light spots form in the forest, hiking a little and being completely in the moment. Two days later I came to this place Julian showed us so many years ago and where I have taken quite a few people in the meantime. I have so much love for friendships and the woods.

I used to climb trees all the time when I was a kid. Reviewing old shots and wishing I could be up there to see the view.
