I love bamboo. I'm sad that it no longer has the shock value for me that it once did, that I've gotten used to it. It's really quite a thing to see when, as a child, you only knew of bamboo from reading about pandas, and from the bamboo shoots in your Chinese food - not necessarily things I would have even put together at age 8. We don't have bamboo in NY, much, really.. not something I was used to seeing.. But now, I guess, I've seen it one too many times, and I've grown too used to it.

This path leads to a dyke, which protects the land of floods. It's a quiet place where only small animals are prominent.

What happened here?
A huge log, looking like a whole tree, really, and not just a branch, lay on the ground in front of this. It must have cracked off and fallen in the storms the previous week. Crazy, though, to see such severe damage, such a huge fallen tree. It had been raining really hard, but there wasn't severe winds like in the storms we get back East.
Reason #1 why I bought a flash! I can now take decent shots of birds in the depth of rainforest.
My first ever clear shot of a Yellow-throated Scrubwren. I did not darken the background - it was dark enough.
