"For those aboard the Greg Mortimer in Montevideo, desperation is setting in, crew members told the AP.
The Antarctic cruise set sail from Argentina on March 15, after a pandemic had already been declared. The ship''s physician, Dr. Mauricio Usme, said that when the first passenger fell ill, on March 22, he was pressured by the captain, the cruise operator and owners to modify the health conditions that had to be met for the ship to be admitted into ports.
Dr. Usme refused. The boat anchored in the port of Montevideo on March 27.
More than half of its passengers and crew tested positive for COVID-19. Finally, on April 10, 127 passengers, including some who were infected, were allowed to disembark and fly home to Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., Canada and Europe. Crew members were told to stay on board.
The doctor was hospitalized in an intensive care unit in Montevideo, along with a Filipino crew member, who later died.
"People are exhausted and mentally drained,” said Dr. Usme, now recovered and back on the Greg Mortimer. “It''s a complex situation. You feel very vulnerable and at imminent risk of death.”

BNSF SD75I 279 leads the Empire Builder on the final leg into Chicago.
P42DC 179 stopped loading in Wishram, WA on its westbound trip to Portland, so the SD75I was added and stayed on for the eastbound trip.
October 2, 2021 - Went to Jeff Lane Motor Museum in Nashvile, Tennessee. This place is fantastic! Over 500 vehicles. I've been to one of the best car museums in the U.S., Petersen Auto Museum in L.A. but this one is right up there with it. Specializes in foreign cars and unique vehicles. Half of these I'd never seen or heard of. Well worth going to.

MÁV is planning to temporarily raise its service standards with several more modern locomotive types. One type is the 490 Astride locomotives leased from Akiem, manufactured by Alsthom as BB36000 in the 1990s. The first of these locomotives, the 003, began its passenger service trial run this week. In the photo above, today, January 29th, train number IC814, running from Budapest-Déli to Pécs near Ercsi.
With the old ATC signaling system having been retired on June 1, 2022, all kinds of foreign power leaders and lashups are now possible on UP's Geneva Sub, provided said lead locomotives are equipped with PTC.
A prime example of this was put on display the night of June 6 as CN 5709 (SD75I) led a trio of CN locomotives on a westbound coal train through La Fox, IL, living up to the "foreign" power moniker!

KCS 4006 finally made its way through Windsor completing what seemed to be a tour of CP's Canadian network. After being laid up in Toronto for a few days with mechanical issues, many railfans in Southwestern Ontario eagerly awaited its departure for Chicago. Unlucky for people east of London, lucky for us in Windsor it departed on the late night 141 from Toronto instead of 147 which allowed it to be in daylight west of London. It was dead-in-tow on its way back to home rails for needed repairs that couldn't be done in Toronto. 4006 is a unique unit commemorating US veterans and was most likely an eye opener to the general public at crossings.
