Meistens begnügt sich der Sekretär damit, einfach schöne, gerne auch spezielle, lustige, nachdenkliche und ironische Bilder mit seinen Flickr-Freunden zu teilen. Aber manchmal gibt es, wie hier, Ausnahmen.
Der Ethikkodex des IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) geht auf einen Kodex des früheren AIEE (American Institute of Electrical Engineers) zurück, der 1912, also vor 110 Jahren, verabschiedet wurde.
Wie wir wissen, hat ein solcher Kodex Personen - und zwar sehr viele - kaum jemals davon abgehalten, sich unethisch bis hin zu kriminell zu verhalten. Und so wird es auch in Zukunft sein. Es wäre auch eine törichte Illusion zu erwarten, dass ein solches Dokument klare Anleitungen für das Verhalten in bestimmten Situationen gibt, auch in diesen schwierigen und herausfordernden Tagen.
Aber angesichts dessen, was Ingenieure zum Guten, aber auch zum Schlechten dieser Welt und ihrer Bewohner beigetragen haben und beitragen, ist es gut, einem Verband anzugehören, dem diese Fragen nicht gleichgültig sind und der über die Grenzen des eigenen Berufsstandes hinausblickt.

But in view of what engineers have contributed and are contributing to the good, but also to the bad, of this world and its residents, it is good to be part of an association that is not indifferent to these issues and that looks beyond the borders of its own profession.

The only interesting part of this image is how close this little one came to me.

Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion. I took this on Spring Break this week while out on a short trip to SoCal. We put 500 miles on a rental car as we drove from LAX to Oceansiide, San Diego, and out to Joshua Tree. Of course, we had to make a pilgrimage to Disneyland.

Three young bison bulls demonstrate how crazy activity during the rut can be. Here one bull mounts another while that bull is fighting with a rival.
We laughed out loud at this ridiculous display. I kept saying "no way".
Note how close we were to this action...182mm. Fortunately almost all the bison rut shots I made were taken from the rolling rental car blind. To have exited the car most of the time would have been foolish and dangerous. We saw one guy get out of his camper van and was barely out the door before a cow charged him. He quickly re-entered the van and hopefully learned a valuable lesson.
One more post in my bison rut series tomorrow, then I'll move on to some more serene wildlife shots.

The name St or Sankt Goar comes from a hermit come saint that decided to set up camp below a particularly nasty set of rapids in the river.
St Goar tended to those that were foolish enough to get stuck in the rapids and became known as a healer, this news spread and he ended up tending the sick of the area and since he was also a good host to the patients family he received he fed them as well.
The saintly man received enough funding from the nobility and his flock of recovered patients that he had a chapel and hospital soup kitchen of sorts built in place of his camp and became legend and the towns patron Saint.
Sankt Goar’s values must be ingrained into the people of the village they are particularly known on the Rhine as a most hospitable village and a good place to celebrate an occasion.
