Withnell Fold, a model village and paper mill were built on a green-field site in 1843. The owner and builder was Thomas Blinkhorn Parke (1823-1885), the son of Robert Park, a local cotton mill owner. The houses in Withnell Fold had gardens and outside toilets.

The mill was started in 1843 and opened and began production on 15 January 1844, with one machine. Three years later a second machine was installed and the business was so successful that a third machine was installed in 1855. The machines were known as "74", "66" and "60", the widths of the paper produced. The quality and variety of the paper improved and in 1849 tissue paper was made, followed in 1856 by coloured tissue. Writing papers were introduced in 1863 and had a reputation for being of the finest quality. Cartridge paper came in 1878. The mill supplied newsprint for Preston, Bolton and Liverpool newspapers. The firm continued as a family concern until 1890 when it combined with Wiggins Teape & Co., an old established firm of stationers. Although the merger did not take place until 1890 the mill had supplied paper to Wiggins and Teape from 1847 and in an old diary kept by Mr. T. B. Parke there's an entry for February of that year which reads "Am now making double cap ordered by Wiggins & Teape".

GOLDEN RATIO

Their sound was once described as the love child of TV On The Radio and Massive Attack. Their sonic genetics vibrate through as an elegant mesh of dark hypnotic grooves, fuzzy psychedelics and seductive vocals. It comes as no surprise to find out that vocalist Talia Mays and bassist Maintenance actually met while collaborating with music innovator Tricky back in 2002. Talia and Maintenance were joined by guitarist Mike Hayungs and drummer E-Dub in 2003.

During the summer of 2005 The Golden Ratio recorded their first album, Cesium Parlor. In this debut they discovered the centuries old balance that generates aesthetically pleasing results, balancing the opposing characteristics of rock, electronic sounds and the world of Tim Burton.

LINDA GOOD

Former touring keyboardist for Jane’s Addiction And Mars Volta, Linda Good's adventure in music has cut a wide path as a songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer. Playing nearly all of the instruments on the record, Linda's solo record showcases a wide variety of vintage keys including mellotron and analog synths, as well as guitar, bass and percussion. She writes, arranges and produces all of the songs. "Love Is..." features drums by Brian Young (Fountains of Wayne), DJ cuts by True:129 and background vocals by KCRW DJ Jason Eldredge. "Life is a Ride" features musical pals The Submarines on background vocals, Dave Wilder on bass and drums by Pete McNeal (Mike Doughty, Z-Trip, Cake.)

Outlined are some of the fundamental creasing patterns that serve as the base folding path for creating a pleated structure. The most common fold is the Parallel Pleat. With alternating (Mountain + Valley) folds, it serves as the most basic corrugated structure. This fold serves as the base unit pattern for a wider family of pleats. All subsequent folds that follow are either a slight modification of the parallel-style pleat, or are modifications of similar constituencies.

By creating a fold perpendicular to the Parallel Pleats, more material gets compacted to form a Cartridge Pleat. Focusing one fold of the Parallel Pleat to a center and arraying it about said center, a Radial Pleat is formed. Specific alterations to the MVMV+ folding sequence as well as skipping folds in sequence can incur two outcomes: a Knife Pleat or a Box Pleat. A Honeycomb-style Pleat can be created from a Box Pleat by peeling the structure out to various, specific points.

When all, or specific, characteristics of these pleats are used in conjunction with each other, new structures are formed.

Combining the Parallel-style Pleat with diagonal folds derived from the Radial Pleat forms various structures that are slightly different, but share the same characteristics. A Trapezoidal Pleat can be though of as a Parallel Pleat deformed to create

tunneling structures. By compacting the pattern, a Diamond Pleat can be achieved. Further contraction and expansion will create a Triangular Pleat, which can be though of as a stretched section of the Diamond folding pattern.

Heavy pattern densities will yield the ability to create Herringbone Pleats - tessellated structures. Curved lines can be mapped to the Herringbone Pleat to estimate its curves. These curvilinear pieces create a Curve Pleat - a direct modification of the Parallel-style fold.

Also shown are the folding makeups of two specialty crease patterns that can be achieved by combining several of the folding methods shown in the C.P. Tree.

First fold of "Hand clawing out from Grave", designed by Eileen Tan.

Free diagram, so thanks to the author, all the more it's a funny model.

I folded it from a 23x11,5cm rectangle of lokta treated with Methyl Cellulose, then wetfold at the end. One face is creamy white, the other with big chaotic fibers.

The whole is 4,5cm high.

Attemp 3: Success! :)

Every year in December I make german paper folded stars. My grandma made them when she was young growing up in Germany. 8 or 9 years ago, with her help and the help of an online tutorial, I learned how to make them. I try to make them every year so that I won't forget.

Heat-n-Bond did the trick! I bonded the fabrics together then cut the strips. I am SO happy with how it turned out! From far away you can't even tell it's fabric instead of paper! Now I am make lots of fun fabric ones! :)

EDIT: This is the tutorial I use to refresh my memory each year! It has a lot of great photos, and you can even order star paper from here too! German Folded Star.

For this star I used .75" strips!
