Flying rat moving on to look for food elsewhere.

New testament books (Matthew, Mark and John) all mention Jesus miraculously walking on water. It was no miracle.

This is how he did it. :-)

Matt and I hung around the square area at Granville Island for ages because the sun was shining and it was a great place to just chill and people watch.

We got talking to some people from Edmonton (city about 180 miles north of Calgary). Their kids had some bird seed and were holding it in their hands....some of the birdies got very brave and I was able to get quite a few shots.

Time to try shooting birds, in combination Canon EOS 7D and EF 70-200 mm 2.8 IS USM.

I'm having too much fun with my old photos! Another from 2008. This is in Puerto Vallarta. The car in the background was the brightest yellow taxi ever. So, thanks to editing, it no longer steals the show. And it was terribly over exposed on one side, so by using a white mat, it's more balanced.

this is why I can no longer feed the sparrows and juncos. the mob has spotted the feeders!

Not actually headless.

Who ate all the pies? I think we now have the answer. These 3 pigeons were having a great feed on some discarded pies and cakes, just behind the Printworks leisure facility in Manchester city centre.

The health of the pigeons in Norwich gets worse and worse. This one had two badly deformed feet and could only lift itself up on its legs by beating its wings. Unfortunately attempts to kill such birds have met with hostility from the public so they are left to suffer.

A pigeon managed to sneak under the pigeon netting on my balcony. So I quickly caught the thing and, being ever helpful, decided to give the bird a lesson on why not to venture onto my balcony again. I called the cats over and showed the bird that my home is protected by fierce carnivores. I had hoped to instill a sense of dread in the pigeon and maybe rekindle some primal instincts in my cats. This didn't go as well as I expected.

Here is the imaginary conversation I had my my cat:

Me: Radar I've got a surprise for you!

Radar: Oh boy! Someone new to play with?

Me: No, it's prey. You hunt it down, toy with it for a bit and then kill it.

Radar: Oh yeah, I play game that with Bogie at 2 in the morning. It's fun!

Me: No, no ... you don't get it. Birds are prey. You kill them and eat them. It's food.

Radar: What? Oh, pull the other one! Food comes in cans or those big bags ... When you're ready to engage in an intelligent conversation you know where to find me. It was nice meeting your friend.

the birds at the beach are terrible xD but this one was the worst. he was chasing off the other birds xD

Another photo from Tuesday's downtown excursion with my friend Marina. We'd both stopped to take a few shots of these pigeons that were making themselves cozy with the warm vent, since it was a chilly day. I didn't even realize I'd captured this pigeon in mid-blink, but I felt it looked like it was scowling, and imagined the ensuing conversation it must have been having.

That's right, on my days off I imagine what birds say to each other.

I also feel like Earl is a good name for a pigeon.

Also, I should note a big thank you to Lexar's image recovery software, (which if you buy a card from them, you should get a free license), which made posting this shot possible. All but 1 photo on that card was corrupt, and it recovered everything!

Pigeons in Soho Square.

I put a few hours into this project over the last few days. It's about 25% complete. So many damn pixels to push.

Pigeon, resting on neighbor's balcony.

While I love all animals, especially birds, pigeons are among my least favorites.

I consider most of them to be "flying rats," as they are nasty, and can spread diseases.

This one, however, seems to be one of several kept as pets by someone in an adjacent neighborhood, and different from those found in urban centers.
