Feedback is important to me.

As a developing photographer I am always open to criticism. I have decided to upload this series in colour instead of black and white.

I was absolutely thrilled when my Surreal Make Up Model, Rachel, asked me to do a Hippie creative shoot of her!! This was her first modeling shoot besides head shots and she was a pro! Make up was by Nina Muller. Styling was a joint effort between myself and Rachel!

A trio of beauties....Daniela's sisters....Eva,Olivia, and Isabel. Where are they marching barefoot to this Saturday afternoon? Taking lunch to their father who is at work as a security guard at the local school. Eva is looking a little suspicious of my motives, huh? :))) It is not unusual, in the barrio, to see the girl children wearing beautiful dresses fit for a birthday party, like this white eyelet cotton one Eva is wearing. Can only assume they are donated as I'm sure the miniscule income families are surviving on must preclude the purchase of such fine wear. I have one delightful photo of Eva in the doorway of her home wearing what looks like a ballerina's tu tu! Isabel, most of all, loves to pose for the camera. Am happy to say that Empowerment International has found a sponsor for each of these little girls. $100 a year brings tangible support for the family and hope for the girls' future.

Kathy is requesting input re : selection of photos the children took in the photography programme to be included in the December exhibition in San Juan del Sur. If you have time please take a look here & give a thumbs up to the ones you think should be included,

Hi, everyone! Thank you all for your phenomenal support of this project to date. You have been more than generous. I dedicate today's post to my dear friend Julio (risquillo) with many thanks for his very kind testimonial. He's an awesome photographer. I have learned much about portraiture from Julio. He's a master.. A sublime example of his work here

So I've rediscovered Fleetwood Mac recently thanks to the tv series American Horror Story and their third season called "Coven". I've become attached to this one character Misty Day who is obsessed with Stevie Nicks and who has a love for everything from mother nature. And basically all of her clothing looks like it comes from Free People so what's not to love?

Anyway, I can't stop listening to this song and so I made this photo.

PS: the lyrics to this song are mesmerizing. I recommend listening to this really really loud and belting out the lyrics.

on may day in childhood, did you weave baskets out of strips of colored paper, fill them with flowers and leave them secretly on the doorsteps of your neighbors?

someone told me there's a girl out there

with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair

-led zeppelin-

Believe it or not this started out as a photograph of a lily and through the magic of Topaz Glow and Topaz Impression turned into the abstract background used in this image of a "Flower Child".

Planting my feet firmly in the soil, I merge with the clematis...til the bees start buzzing, I start flapping my arms and decide maybe that wasnt such a great idea after all. With a little help from the SB600 to my left. Shooting, posting and running as Becky aka mary poppins is coming to stay this weekend and...i need to tidy up!!

*edit*...cat news for those of you who've asked/mailed how she is. Tests came back today as 'inconclusive' which means next recommended step is a biopsy to see how bad the tumour is and what if anything can be done. The biopsy costs £1500 - £2000 so......yeah. Will be thinking alot about that over the weekend. If they do the biopsy and the tumour's too bad, they might make a decision to put her down then anyway. gah. Nothing more to say.

"The "good ol' days" are NOW.

When life is demanding (almost always), I find myself wishing for a different time and place.

Maybe the easier days of the 60's and 70's (they weren't, I'm sure).

But soon enough, even "now" will all too soon become the past I wish for again.

So I am learning to embrace life as it comes... in all of its wonderfully (most of the time) complicated mix.

FINALS ARE OVER!! I While everyone is taking their last tests right now, I have no schooool!

In loving memory of my smiling kitty, Di Milo ♥

July 1, 2009 - October 26, 2012

Thank you everyone for your love and prayers. Di Milo fought bravely to the very end. He is now with my other kitties. I am absolutely devastated and in tears. I never thought I would lose Di Milo at such a young age.

I got Di Milo when he was only 8 weeks old. He was such a tiny and rambunctious kitten! For the first few weeks I had to watch my every step for fear of stepping on him. Luckily I never did! He loved to climb and would occasionally smile for me :-)

To my delight, he grew up to become a strong and healthy tabby. He had beautiful orange eyes that would light up upon seeing me. He was such a joy to have around the house. His unexpected death has left a hole in my heart. He is greatly missed and is in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace, Di Milo, and keep on smiling ♥.

- - - FOR SALE - - - I was only after 1 copy and don’t need the extra copies that were in the box this poster came in so they are for sale. $50 with free shipping to USA addresses. Send me a FlickrMail.

Also available are small sets of (4) 34"x21" original "Fallpaper" billboard reproductions printed in 1969 on a rotating basis via my shop on ebay, or contact me directly via Flickrmail (preferred). A few Fallpaper copies are in Near Mint condition, the rest are in perfect MINT, unused New Old Stock (NOS) condition and came to me in recent years still rolled up in their original postmarked Seven Up Company mailing tube . You will also see a variety of other even rarer retro 7Up UnCola posters listed for sale. If my collection contains more than 1 copy, the duplicates may be offered for others to enjoy. I'm also willing to trade for other images from this UnCola series.

3/28/11:

33" x 20" "Don’t Be The Last To UnCola” (aka “The Tortoise and the Hare”) vintage 7Up UnCola poster by Pat Dypold.

Mint Condition, New Old Stock (NOS), no defects - - - UNUSED - - -

These color renditions are very close to the actual poster.

The artist was Pat Dypold who free lanced for the J. Walter Thompson [advertising] Company in Chicago. She did most of this body of work after forming her own independent studio and did the bulk of the other 7Up outdoor ads (billboards). Her signature is under the tortoise's right foot along the edge of the path (see adjacent photo). My research indicates that this was originally illustrated in 1971 based on "DES [design] Numbers" on the rear of a billboard of the same image. It was meant to appeal to younger audiences of the late 1960’s and 70’s. She also did a minimum of 6 of the 14 images in the yellow 1972 Poster Offer linked below, including Designs #2, 7, 8, 10, 11 & 12 - plus many other later posters. Artists, well known or not were invited to submit artwork for the campaign which was then reviewed anonymously by the client.

Although Peter Max's name seems to be associated with ALL of the 7Up UnCola artwork, in fact, he did NONE of it. He was not invited to submit rough drafts because JWT chose to contact only up and coming artists of the day. They didn't want any artist's notoriety to overshadow the product itself and Max was already more well known. I can also substantiate that because I've cataloged most of the artists' names for over 53 major UnCola images as a hobby.

The Seven Up Company was based in St. Louis at the time. Two other photos in the set show the original shipping box & label from Universal Printing Company, 1701 Mackland Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri 63110, direct to the Seven-Up Bottling Co., 12201 Beech-Daly Rd., Detroit, Michigan 48239. This box was produced by Bennett Paper Corp. of St. Louis, MO, Job No. 74-1090 (see other photo in set) which I believe dates the actual printing of these poster images sometime between 1974 and 1977 at the very latest when the UnCola ad campaign switched to the “UNdo it” slogan. The address on the box also pre-dates the Zip+4 postal program of 1983. 1971 is also a likely printing date when the image was fresh and the box number has nothing to do with the date. It is my assumption that this poster, and the others that accompanied it in the box were sent to the bottling company to display in stores to promote 7Up. Having never been removed from the box or exposed to light until now, they are still in PERFECT, UNUSED, MINT condition, other than suffering from being tightly rolled up for over 4 decades. Repeatedly rolling the opposite way corrected the curl in a few hours. There are no burns, stains, thumb tack holes, rips, strips of tape, frayed edges, folds, fading, fingerprints or flaws! This is an authentic, traceable representation of late '60s, early 1970's pop art advertising.

The Tortoise and Hare image in this poster was originally offered for sale directly by The Seven Up Company only in the giant 21’x10’, 30-sheet (12 panels at 43"x59" each) billboard size in 1972. After years of searching, I've never seen or acquired any poster offers for this image in anything other than the billboard size.

Design #10 in the yellow poster offer from 1972.

If you have any UnCola billboard posters, please tell me about them. - - RARE - - I only know of 1 billboard owned by someone else and not for sale plus a very small number of other 33x20 copies (but NONE in MINT NOS condition like these) in addition to what has filtered through my collection.

Please let me know if you have have any UnCola images. I'm always interested in expanding my collection or trading away extra copies.
