About 10 years ago, a neighbor gave me a 2 gallon can with a scrawny, leggy plant in it and predicted great things. Sounded like a Jack-in-the-Bean-Stalk story at the time but now I believe his outlandish tale. My Silk Floss started quickly growing and growing. And today it's 60 feet high!
The thick green trunk is covered with big fiercely strong and sharp spines. Locals here call it Monkey Tree because they say only monkeys can climb it. The spines break off, wear down and turn gray as the tree ages. Silk Floss trees grow so rapidly that they get bright green stretch marks! Some experts say it's the fastest growing tree in the world... and based on my experience... I think they may be right!
When Silk Floss trees mature, they shed their leaves in September and, all bare, break into a glorious display of gorgeous pink or purple five-petaled flowers. The flowers are followed by pear-shaped capsules filled with seeds embedded in silky white floss. The floss, or Kapok, extracted from the pods is a cotton-like substance with smooth fibers – too smooth for textile thread – that's used to stuff life preservers, saddles, cushions and mattresses. The primary use is for life preservers as the floss can support 30 times its own weight in water!

Exact (or very close) matches of all the colors of my felt. Ahhh, something about pretty colors all lined up so neatly makes me very happy.
I must confess this pic is of my sister, but it seems to fit this
request too perfectly. Our greatest thought whenever we look at it is how much more concerned my father was with focusing than anything else.

my OCD senses wouldn't leave me alone until i got around to organizing my floss! this took about 5 hours only because i did it during superbowl sunday 2011 and, as you can guess, i got distracted quite a few times.
About 1850 when shipping activity up the Trent was very great, smuggling was not unknown, the owner of the mill built himself a house on Front St, and he constructed a secret passage to the mill, as sloops by 1840 could sail up the Humber with out passing customs untill they reached Gainsborough, many a keg of Brandy was landed at Morton mill.the route was up the passage, through the house to the old maltkins ,to the Sailor Boy Inn, and a lot of other people,,at the time of this photo it was a laundry.

A slightly revised version of the FLOSS contribution model, with what I hope are slightly clearer names for the binary groupings.

Several months ago, not long after I first got my flash, I made a flash 'bounce card' modelled after the one found at www.themoment2cherish.com/DIY-Bounce-Card/
It cost me a total of $2, for two pieces of A4 foam paper from a local art shop. I had some elastic and velcro already. The velcro had a sticky back, so I just stuck it straight to the elastic, and it worked great.
For a while.
Then the velcro would pull off the elastic with a little bit of pressure after it had been under strain for a while. And it gradually got worse, until this week it will barely stay together long enough to take one photo with it.
So, I did was any self-respecting guy would do. I asked my mum to sew the velcro to the elastic for me.
It was a very quick job for her, it was over in about 10 mins. The needle was even already threaded in her sewing tin. Threaded with floss. Somehow I think it's very fitting that this DIY project is held together with floss! (I am the son of a dentist, after all).
Today I am grateful for Grammy sharing her talents, and for all who freely share their talents to improve the lives of others.
or Fairy Floss as the Aussies call it.
Poor old Mr Mac, some days he astounds me. Yesterday as we watched the candy floss machine work its magic he confessed he had never seen candy floss being made before.
That's a deprived childhood right there folks.
