These photos show the original screw - in electical plug on the antique floor lamp in the previous photos, and the original screw - in electrical outlet in our 1901 house. I had to crawl under some furniture to photgraph the outlet. It has a hinged brass cover that is open in this photo.

I figured it was some time since Ugglan got a new scarf last - so here we go!

I surprised Sonja with this scarf -- and it is a very versatile scarf ... since it also has sleeves! It is possible to wear it in many different ways.

Things get broken or need repair as time passes.

It is quite all right and no reason to be disturbed, as they are actually only t~h~i~n~g~s.

Wanting to cherish my loving, incredibly giving and wise grandmother today in her memory,

I'll share what she used to say to me:

" My child, never set a tear about a broken thing, as all of them can eventually be repaired or replaced. It's the person that we shall miss."

and she often added:

"Everything is possible my dear child, so long as what you wish for is for the overall good, including yours. Believe, have faith, be honest, be patient, work hard and visualise."

My autumn coat needed a special scarf. Here it is!

I realize this photo is a bit blurry, but I thought this floor lamp was fabulous. I'm sure it's no longer there, because this is from my archive, but it's still an awesome lamp!!!

Chine, Shanghai, 2013.

En bas de mon hôtel, qui pourrait s'apparenter à une cité HLM chez nous, un vélo, premier d'une longue lignée. Car en chine le 2 roues est encore roi.

In 1984 I posed my daughter and son in front of the Christmas tree trying to blow out a candle. I liked this image well enough to have it enlarged and I hang in my family room for the month of December.

For the All New Scavenger Hunt #13 - Frozen in Time; my daughter at age 4 and my son at age 3.

Friday and Saturday were really good days for me at sales.

This photo is showing just the big stuff, not shown is a lot of really neat dishware and other small items.

1. First garage sale I went to on Friday, I pulled up and these HM chairs were not actually in the sale, but leaning up against the garage. They need some TLC.

2. Large mass produced art put out by Turner, it is a Turner Wall Accessory like her.

3. A very neat floor lamp.

4. Two very neat garbage cans, but I didn't score them this weekend.

5. TV light planter combo.

6. Metal telephone bench, the table top lifts up for phonebook storage.

7. The Kromex canisters.

8. Metal BBQ cart.

9. Small Zenith television. Great colors.

10. Corner table. This table, the daybed in the next photo and numbers 9, 14, 16 and 17 all came from the same sale. It was the closest sale to my house, but the last one I went to.

11. RCA Victor turntable, I believe this came out of a larger console.

12. Swooping bamboo chair. This one actually came from a sale a few weeks ago, but I just now finished up some small repairs on it.

13. A pair of hairpin end tables. I think these were used outside for quite a while, they need to be repainted and new tops. Sort of remind me of the Florence Knoll stools.

14. Silvertone folding compact record player.

15. Small handmade mosaic piece. I finished it out by putting some edges around it, sort of like a frame. But honestly, I can't make out what the image is supposed to be.

16. Small round table with kool iron legs. Makes a great coffee table or corner table, this thing is very heavy.

17. An original painting of three boats, this was painted by the original owner of the daybed and the tables.

Soft atmosphere over Paris

I love seeing a well-lit shot and seeing the how-to. Recently booliansplit's striking, magical wineglass shot caught my attention see it here. I was very pleased when he provided explanation and overview as to how it was done.

I've done a lot of tabletop shots over the years, and like the idea of elegantly-simple, fast, 1-light solutions. Here I used a single 23W CFL in an Ikea floorlamp reflector on a gooseneck. It's shining through tracing-paper diffusion glued to a foamcore frame. The diffusion is angled over the subject and fairly close. The lamp is further back. This makes soft light with nice wrapping characteristics. (The tape measure is simpy a "small, heavy thing" keeping the frame from slipping off the table)

The light is high and to the rear in order to give a bit of fill in the logo, I used a bounce card. (in this case, it is literally a card, a Christmas card, that was within reach. It could have a folded piece of white paper or a white foamcore piece.) I moved it in close, but just out of frame.

There was enough light to handhold with my non-IS 60mm.

Even though I have small flash units and a pair of Alien Bees that I use a lot, I use this setup or variations of it almost daily because it's handy and fast. Many of my macro monday shots use some spin on this setup.

Sculpture by Will Wagenaar----------------

The device is a floor lamp with a past life:

It appears to have had another, most vital purpose in a bygone era.

Legend has it that the good Dr. Davenenport was at wits' end

trying to find his wayward, mechanical dragon.

In desperation yet with great skill,

this rather odd mechanism emerged from his laboratory one day.

The problem was solved.

Every night at sundown this beacon would call the dragon home to guard the doctor's manor.

The doctor could rest assured
