The Westland Whirlwind helicopter was a British licence-built version of the US Sikorsky S-55/H-19 Chickasaw. It primarily served with the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm in anti-submarine and search and rescue roles. It was also exported to other countries. The helicopter was made in many variants using a variety of radial (piston) and turbine engines. Note the engine access doors are open - this seems to be a feature of all the Brunei Whirlwind images I hold, suggesting that removal of heat from the engine compartment was a problem...
Whirlwind helicopters fitted with turbine power served right up until the early 1980s, and a converted Whirlwind was in the Queen's Flight, although Queen Elizbeth II never flew in it.
This is a Westland Whirlwind SRS.3, serial no. WA/491, built in 1964. It is seen on an improvised landing pad somewhere in Brunei. It was being operated by the Angkatan Tenara Udara Diraja Brunei (Royal Brunei Air Force), perhaps trialling the fitted floats in field conditions (see earlier and later photos in this album).
This was a PR photo and is scanned from a print retained by the RAF pilot on secondment. I do not have an exact site for this photo, so the map location is entirely arbitrary.
Tractor pulling a float of musicians in a parade on Front Street in Belleville. The photograph was taken at 170 Front Street, outside Booth Appliances and Bishop's Seeds (172), with Pete's Palace (174) and Ed Thomas's cigar shop (182 Front) in the background. A note on the back of the photograph reads "Dec. 1954 Roy's Float".

I’ve been eyeing these inflatable cup holders for literally a year now but I could never justify paying $10-$20 for *one* but turns out Cotton On (a clothing store) is clearancing out a whole bunch for $3 each so I had to grab one.
I picked the swan cuz, next to the flamingo, it’s one of the most common pool floats I’ve seen on Instagram.
Henry’s enjoying floating around in my bath tub though.
Still a lot of house floats for Mardi Gras this year, and I DO hope it continues! For anyone who doesn't want to go to parades, driving around or walking was great fun to see the houses decorated for Mardi Gras!

Floating away on a dream. Lost in a space of her own where time has no beginning and imagination has no end.
My daughter Sofia loves bathtime -- the warmth of the water, the sound it makes as it pours from the faucet. She smiles, her arms and legs relax, and her long honey-blond hair floats on the water like an exotic water-flower.

The cab interior of a Smiths Electric milk float that had been used by a farm at Stanley Common in Derbyshire for local milk deliveries. By the time this picture was taken in 2017, it had fallen into disuse and would be sold on.
The infamous Homecoming, 1968 float from the other side. "Grayson-Field-Dickinson" refers to the three dorms in the Orchard Hill quad that worked together on the float. A friend of mine asked if I had a view from the other side that showed a spelling error and yes, you can see it. I won't mention any names to protect the (not so) innocent.
Kose
I always think that if you have seen one Kose, you have seen them all.
Thought it was funny to find a floater on a hopper by him though.
