Flint Castle, located in Flint, Flintshire, Wales was the first of a series of castles built during King Edward I's campaign to conquer Wales.
Situated over a harbour on the River Dee estuary, construction began in 1277 and continued for nine years. The castle is believed to have been based on French (or Savoyard) contemporary models, with one of the corner towers enlarged and isolated, made to serve as keep (e.g. Dourdan). The keep itself is of a unique plan to the British Isles, with the only close parallel to be found at Aigues-Mortes, France, which King Edward I, may have been familiar with. This plan, with the isolated keep was not repeated in the other castles of Edward I (see Castles and Town Walls of King Edward in Gwynedd).
In 1399 Richard II of England was captured and held there before being returned to London. The castle was occupied many times during the English Civil War and it has also been used as a quarry.
In 1838 J. M. W. Turner painted a watercolor of the castle.

This gorgeous house , not far from me is a mixture of stone blocks and blocks with pieces of flint inserted and built creating this chequer board effect , the building was shot on colour then converted to B&W cloning out the TV mast , dustbins & sky , but replacing the sky with a variant , by using the perspective tool managed to keep lines of building nearly all straight , hence the punching out effect

These cabins are near a campground. There are many of flint chippings. This is how the Flint Flats got its name. I spent a lot of time watching the ground looking for arrow heads.

The flattened surface with the orange peel texture is the side on which the little flint rested for who knows how long?
Flints develop a patina with age. I assume that it is limestone, and what makes it happen is for someone else to explain. I'm only taking photos to study the varying faces of the flint and the many textures and variations that can exist on such a tiny object.
