Pam sent me an amazing package with this gorgeous mosaic sock, gift tags from String Theory, and a beautiful project bag.

I'll be knitting the second sock. I can't wait to cast on!!

The mosaic pattern is based on Kate from Zeitgeist Yarns' Ode to Eames socks.

Flint has no ears to speak of because of two botched hematoma surgeries.

It doesn't seem to bother her though.

Bronzeage Flint Arrow Head

It is not just metal objects that are found when detecting. This lovely flint arrow head was found eyes only. It is about 3cm long.

Flint is a cryptocrystalline, quartzose sedimentary rock - its geologic name is "chert". A famous occurrence of high-quality, colorful flint is Flint Ridge, Ohio. Prehistoric American Indians quarried this material to make arrowheads, spearpoints, and other tools. Flint is the "official state gemstone" of Ohio.

One of the earliest (if not the first) photos taken of my new arrivals (Boxing Day 1986? - I think), Flint (left) and his sister Guinness.

Aren't they just wildly adorable? Both gone now, Flint went first, he was always a 'sickly' cat but gave a lot of pleasure, Guinness lived to about 18 and died about three years ago. Miss them terribly, but have three children to keep me busy!

As far as I can remember taken on my Fujica AX-3 c/w Fujinon 50mm f1.6 lens.

This print has been cropped down a bit.

Flint Castle (Welsh: Castell y Fflint) located in Flint, Flintshire, was the first of a series of castles built during King Edward I's campaign to conquer Wales.

The site was chosen for its strategic position in North East Wales. The castle was only one day's march from Chester, supplies could be brought along the River Dee and there was by a ford across to England that could be used at low tide.

Flint Castle, located in Flint, Flintshire, Wales was the first of a series of castles built during King Edward I's campaign to conquer Wales.

Situated over a harbour on the River Dee estuary, construction began in 1277 and continued for nine years. The castle is believed to have been based on French (or Savoyard) contemporary models, with one of the corner towers enlarged and isolated, made to serve as keep (e.g. Dourdan). The keep itself is of a unique plan to the British Isles, with the only close parallel to be found at Aigues-Mortes, France, which King Edward I, may have been familiar with. This plan, with the isolated keep was not repeated in the other castles of Edward I (see Castles and Town Walls of King Edward in Gwynedd).

In 1399 Richard II of England was captured and held there before being returned to London. The castle was occupied many times during the English Civil War and it has also been used as a quarry.

In 1838 J. M. W. Turner painted a watercolor of the castle.

Tips for Explorers:

Check the opening times: Flint Castle is managed by Cadw, the historic environment service of the Welsh Government. Check their website for the latest opening times and admission fees.

Wear comfortable shoes: The castle grounds are uneven in places, so wear sturdy footwear for your exploration.

Bring a camera: The castle and its surroundings offer plenty of photo opportunities.

Learn about the history: Before your visit, read up on the history of Flint Castle and its role in Welsh and English history. This will enhance your experience and allow you to appreciate the significance of what you are seeing.

Flint Castle is a must-visit for history enthusiasts, architecture lovers, and anyone seeking a glimpse into the medieval past. Its unique design, strategic location, and Shakespearean connection make it a truly special place to explore.
