Flint Castle is in North-West Wales near the border with England. It was built by King Edward I. It is freely open to the public.
A sculpture in steel of a flint hand axe like those found in the former Barnfield Pit. It is now Swanscombe Heritage Park, finding fame in 1935 for the discovery of parts of a skull of Swanscombe Man.

Another from the series I took on Flint Castle, where Richard the 2nd surrended to his cousin Henry Bolingbroke, later to become Henry the 7th, in 1399.
I was taken, here, by the golden light.
Begun in 1277, Flint Castle was the first of a chain of forts built by King Edward I to ensure English dominance over the Welsh. One scene from Shakespeare's 'Richard II' is set here (when he is captured by his cousin Henry Bolingbroke, later King Henry IV). In the mid-17th century, it was partly destroyed on the orders of Oliver Cromwell, and has been a picturesque and mournful ruin ever since. It overlooks the estuary of the River Dee.

Flint, a variety of quartz, is a hard and durable mineral. Native Americans, both prehistoric and historic, used flint to make a wide variety of tools, weapons, and ceremonial pieces.
Small amounts of impurities commonly yield a wide variety of colors to flint. These colors include red, pink, green, blue, yellow, gray, white, and black. Combinations of these colors in a piece of flint are considered very attractive and highly prized by collectors.

Hundreds of rocks litter the riverbed of the Flint River in downtown Albany, Georgia. The river is very low right now because of the drought.
After several hours of hard bushwhack hiking, I sat down next to a waterfall and attempted to make an arrowhead. A few shattered pieces later, I was able to get a decent looking weapon. It's such a great feeling to know that even in today's world, humans can still retain an ancient knowledge used by our ancestors. Note that in my two dozen or so attempts since, I have not been able to fashion so much as a butter knife let alone a spear point. B-luck all day.
Our local Kennel Club www.nanaimokennelclub.ca/ held it's CKC sanctioned conformation match yesterday and Flint was awarded a Sporting Group 2 ribbon. He is just showing that he can sit up and be handsome holding a pink ribbon.
