I loved eating at the Lunch Studio for the first time. This charming, retro-themed, downtown restaurant had table service, delicious food, and very reasonable prices.

A place like this would have been unheard of in the downtown area when I was a teenager in the late 1980's / early 90's.

1284-2024 Flint Castle is also famous as the location of a fateful meeting in 1399 between Richard II and his rival to the crown Henry Bolingbroke (later Henry IV), an event immortalised in Shakespeare’s Richard II.

The castle, as all the other Edward I's castles, was built on the coast to be easiest supplied by sea and occupies a promontory that juts into the river Dee large estuary. Today the river is far from the castle walls, in the middle age it filled the moat at high tide and beside the keep was found a dock where ships berthing and this saved the castle by the attack of Dafydd ap Gruffudd in 1282 and in 1400 by the one of Owain Glyndwr. During the Civil War Flint changed hands several times. It was strongly slighted and used as a quarry for the town houses.

Discovered by my amateur archaeologist father

FLINT KNAPPER

The struck flakes are translucent

As fingernails, the same size,

And curved like them, knapped

Onto the ground with sparks.

Held up to the light, against

His stone-chafed thumb,

He scrutinises fissures

And imperfections.

This little skin-thin blade

Rejected, flipped into the ling,

The edge left unserrated

For the sake of a single chip.

And though the tip is marred,

And this thin sliver but

A Bronze Age factory second

The height of history makes me faint;

I treasure what was cast aside

Dizzied by the vertigo of years.

Source material: Inspired by a bronze age scraper which I found on East Porth, Samson, Isles of Scilly on 1st June 2004. The scraper had no secondary working, and had clearly been rejected because of the flaw at its tip.

Clothes and shoes! Sadly his eyes nor his wig have arrived yet. The Fairyland eyes aren't to bad but I love glass eyes so much more... he's still deadly cute though :-)

Every man at different times—and at different volumes—eventually hears that... call of the wild.
