It's a very challenging process for most of them, and enables them to achieve things way beyond their expectations. Over the 8 days they learn to rely on trustworthy adults (sometimes for the first time) and each other. Through their experiences they begin to believe, "If I can do that, I can do anything!"

With our goal almost constantly in sight, it took us quite a while to tramp through the rough, rocky ground of the foothills before we could tackle the climb proper.
