When I began sharing images from my recent Flinders Ranges trip, I posted a landscape, featuring River Redgums, which I had edited to resemble the paintings of Sir Hans Heysen, a German-born Australian artist. His work came to epitomise the beauty of this region. At the time, I said I would post the "original" as a comparison. This is the look I would normally want to achieve - without the stylization.
I was having a discussion with some family on the weekend about the incredible place the Flinders Ranges here is South Australia is to get away and refresh the mind. Simply sitting, feeling the emptiness, immense age and complete serenity of the place.
We all have a Flinders Ranges, it can be your backyard, a local river or, like me, a place half a day away.
2016 is enveloping us quickly. Remember to take some time for you.
Peace, Denis
I'm definitely not a great wildlife photographer, but I'm rather proud of this one.
I've just got back from 5 nights in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia, such a beautiful part of our state/country and full of wildlife.
Expect lots of content over the next few days.
FOR A BIT OF FUN CHECK OUT THE BALL OF LIGHT MOVIE : www.denissmith.com.au/about/ball-of-light-movie/
Down at Alligator Gorge yeaterday the Ball of Light felt attracted to this amazing gouge out of the gulley. It always makes me sit and contemplate how these massive scrapes from the rock happen.
This was at a turn in the gulley where millions of years of rock and water have carved it away. The Ball of Light felt quite at home. As did I.
(The only adjustments to this image are minor brightness and saturation tweaks. NO PIXELS ARE ADDED OR REMOVED. It is taken in a SINGLE EXPOSURE, with no use of "mechanical devices". )
There were hundreds of kangaroos to be seen in this area, particularly early morning (when this was taken) and even more so at dusk.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it :-)
I will always try to reciprocate with a visit back to your stream.

Sunset view from Hancock's Lookout in the Southern Flinders Ranges.
I haven't had a chance to do any outdoor photos (other than my weekly gameday shots for my local footy club) for over 4 months, but when I managed to get out of work at 4pm today I made the 75 minute drive up to one of my favourite lookouts. Thankfully I got there a bit before sunset and I wasn't disappointes with the view.
Some remains of old stone cottages in the mid north of South Australia in the Flinders Ranges area. This area can be very hot and arid, but this particular year was surprisingly green after good winter rains. Location data in the map will be a very approximate guess.
Happy Walls Wednesday!
Ran this shot from the Flinders Ranges through recently acquired Topaz AI editing app to see how it handled a less than perfect long-distance image of these small parrots. Seemed to produce a better result than the original.
2 gum trees I don't think I have photographed together under the setting Milky Way and Moon in Arkaba Creek, Moralana Scenic Drive north of Hawker. 3 shot vertical pano with lighting from 2 flash units processed in Photoshop. Sony lens on ETZ21 adaptor.
It should be added that the sublime beauty of the facture notates the exploration of montage elements.

Sunset in the outback......there is nothing quite like it!
As I did not get the opportunity on this occasion to photograph from the air, please take a look at this image to get the full perspective of Wilpena Pound:

Deserted pioneer farm and mining camp in the Flinders Ranges outback. Scattered among the distinctive River Red Gums are a number of these constructions, built with the local flat stones.
I was extremely lucky to join Denis Smith and an amazing group of people in the Flinders Ranges for the last few days. The experience was unforgettable and far exceeded my expectations. We were gifted with sunsets, rainbows, adventure and unique photo opportunities. I learnt an incredible amount and returned feeling inspired and very grateful for the journey.
Thank you Denis and all the crew.

The wedge-tailed eagle is the largest bird of prey found in Australia, seen here feeding on the remains of what was probably a rabbit.
