But not all of us....

Still, the ability to share in something as wonderful of music together for many of us should not be forgotten.

I'm not one of those people who think quarantine should be broken. I believe it is important to stop the spread of Coronavirus and "flatten the curve" but I also believe that right now my photos of different times are my best reason for having a camera. I know during this shelter at home many of you have gotten creative with indoor photos and I really admire that. But, I have a lot of photos that I have never posted that I'm enjoying revisiting. It's nice to remember these days and feel hopeful for their return.

A very unsharp image i know, was taken trough some wire fencing what created the red line as i did not have an anamorphic filter in use.

Hidden Champion - Thanks to our locdrivers for keeping the connection

#flattenthecurve #andratuttobene #weststayontracks #stayathome

The last cargo of this day was a nice one - loc in service was the TXL 193 203 from ELL rented with the "Hidden Champion" livery - the first and only time I saw this locomotive during my vacation, "Hidden" it was.

The text was put on the locomotive in March 2020 and says:

Hidden Champion - Thanks to our locdrivers for keeping the connection

#flattenthecurve #andratuttobene #weststayontracks #stayathome

This to give the cargo drivers a boost that maintained the services during the start of the COVID19 pandemic.

Social distancing above Los Angeles during the Coronavirus

A springtime snow and a beautiful morning to get out in the woods. Hope everyone is doing well. We're pretty hunkered down here in New York, hoping for the best!

It has been one month now that we have been staying at home. For a month I’ve been teleworking and snapping my way across a locked down Ghent, capturing the city as it unfolds before my eyes wondering how the “new normal” will look like. The good news is that our efforts seem to pay off. The latest figures confirm the downward trend; the number of corona patients in Belgian hospitals keeps going down. While 303 corona patients had to be hospitalised, 387 were discharged from hospital. There are now 5,069 Covid-19 patients in Belgian hospitals, 92 less than the day before. Stay Safe, Stay Healthy - Vleeshuisbrug, Ghent, Belgium

The photographs in this album were not taken by myself. They were taken in and around London in late March 2020 and show the extent the people in this lovely city are taking the current pandemic very seriously indeed.

Like millions of others in the UK I’m adhering to the advice of the government to remain in my home so that my own chances of catching the Covid-19 virus are minimised.

The pictures show how quiet some major London landmarks are at this worrying time.

I’d love to go out and take some pictures of my own but know that to do so would be irresponsible.

I hope that the pictures give my friends and contacts on flickr some idea of how serious the people of the UK are taking this potential health crisis.

The vast majority of the UK is trying extremely hard to:

#FlattenTheCurve

My thoughts at this worrying time are with all of the families around the world who are having to bear the loss of their loved ones.

Wash your hands.

Maintain social distancing.

Only go out if it's absolutely necessary.

Flatten the Curve!

Yesterday’s figures showed more hospitalizations, 174 versus 123 the day before, but fewer people in critical care. Also 170 deaths were reported, bringing the total number of fatalities to 7,501. Despite these less than optimal numbers the government confirmed that the first phase of the lifting of the lockdown measures will start as of 4 May. A study conducted by the University of Oxford demonstrated that almost half of all transmissions occurred before anyone showed symptoms. To start easing the lockdown restrictions as of 4 May more testing and effective contact tracing is mission critical. It is estimated that delaying contact tracing by even a day from the onset of symptoms could make the difference between epidemic control and coronavirus resurgence. Belgium is however lagging behind with reaching its testing goal and the planned manual contacting system will likely not be in place in time. Why has the recruitment of contract tracers been delayed? Why don’t we implement a simple mobile contact tracing app to help control the spread of coronavirus? This together with the suboptimal communication strategy of the government continue to frustrate a large part of the population. We never want a serious crisis go to waste, therefore, I hope that we will look at this disaster as an opportunity to significantly improve the future governance of our country - Nieuwburgkaai, Ghent, Belgium

487 new patients were admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours, and 524 new people have also been discharged, bringing the total number of people in the hospital at the moment to 5,688. This is a decrease for the first time, with 324 patients! For the first time, the number of patients in hospitals has decreased, which is good news. However, the burden is still very heavy, and the number of people in intensive care is still increasing a little. Most precarious now is the situation in the residential care centres. The current measures to control the spread of Covid19 are as a minimum in force until 19 April. If they will extend beyond that date is not yet known. One thing is for sure we will need to practice social distancing even when the strict measures in place are lifted and empty streets and squares will remain the new normal for a while – Stay Safe, Stay Healthy – Kuiperskaai, Ghent, Belgium

Yesterday the crisis center reported that168 people died of COVID-19. This makes a total of 5,828 fatalities since the outbreak of the pandemic. Also, 232 people were hospitalised bringing the total of COVID-19 patients in hospital to 4,920. Regardless of how sad these numbers are, they keep moving in the right direction! Therefore, everybody wants to know when the lockdown measures will be lifted or relaxed. To temper too much hope experts shared graphs showing what would have happened to hospitalisations without measures on 14 March and if measures were stopped on 16 April. Both models suggest that without the corona measures there would have been an exponential increase in the figures. Net-net, our efforts to stay at home helped to manage the situation. The graphs also tell that the lockdown measures should not be lifted too quickly. There is a lack of group immunity and a second outbreak could erupt very quickly. Anyhow, for all Belgian residents the current measures will remain in force until 3 May. The national security council is expected to provide greater clarity about what will happen after 3 May on Friday. Stay safe, stay healthy! - Kraanlei, Ghent, Belgium
