My Alaskan penpal sends me the best gifts. Always locally made. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in my area that has an ornament made from porcupine quills!
FlaT Lay
I have been wanted to recreate this Flat Lay image ever since I came across the Fictitious Dishes book by Dinah Fried. I liked it so much I bought the Kindle version. I want to do more!
I grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts and am a New Englander no matter that I have lived in Raleigh, NC now for 20 years! One thing I know is good New England Clam Chowder (or Chowdah). Don't try to add things to such a simple recipe. And I prefer it without bacon. It was hard to get good chowder when we lived in Omaha, NE and then in Raleigh for many years. Then someone opened The Nantucket Grille. Their chowder was pretty good and you could get whole belly clams. But now we have Cousins Food Truck. They specialize in New England Lobster Rolls and have the best Clam Chowder. So, almost don't have to go north anymore!
So, I put my chowder in a bowl made by Bennington Potters in Bennington Vermont. This is their famous splatter pattern in Morning Glory Blue. The soup spoon is from my Mom's silver. Do you know that they don't make soup spoons like this anymore! The Westminster Baker's Co. founded in 1828 was originally in Westminster, MA. They have moved to Vermont, but nothing has changed in their recipe! My friend grew up in Westminster and he said that had a barrel out front with broken crackers! The shells probably came from Newport, RI or from Maine. I don't remember where the sea glass came from.
So, this week I took photos on the floor of the master shower (I sense a bathroom theme). It is real stone - flat. It is a roll-in shower. I couldn't have lunch until I was satisfied with my layout.
I added the text that Dinah Fried used in her Moby-Dick photo. I added a stroke border using the Marquee Tool in PS and used Topaz Studio 2 to add the Imperial Ash and Cool Contrast looks. I added a Katie Pertiet border.
There are a lot of great photos this week. Thanks Ricky for using this idea!

My first ever Mecca purchase, decided to take a product flat lat of it! I would love to get into product photography, so I think I will start doing more of these to practice!
My fiancé's grandfather passed away last week, it's been an incredibly hard few days but the way I deal with grief is expressing myself through art. The flowers in these images were given to me by Shane's grandma after the funeral. This is my way of memorializing him, and having something to hold on to now that's he's gone.

I've been eyeing these ripening tomatoes from our garden for a few days. I finally decided to try this composition.
