These 13th century floor tiles form part of the largest surviving spread of medieval decorated floor tiles inside any building in England. The tiles where they were first laid, in the Retrochoir at the far end of the Cathedral.
Visitors were asked to walk on them with care.
A two for the price of one today! I love books and I love coffee ice cream. I'm taking my time reading the Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath...I find her a great inspiration for my poetry. :o)

NATIONAL READ A BOOK DAY
National Read A Book Day is observed annually on September 6th. On August 9th, we all celebrated National Book Lovers Day. While these bookish days may seem similar, National Read a Book Day invites us ALL to grab a book we might enjoy and spend the day reading.
Don’t keep it to yourself. Share the experience! Read aloud either to children or to grandparents. Read to your pets or to your stuffed animals and plants.
Reading improves memory and concentration as well as reduces stress. Older adults who spend time reading show a slower cognitive decline and tend to participate in more mentally stimulating activities over their lifetime. Books are an inexpensive entertainment, education and time machine, too!
Featured Books –
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott – Set during Civil War, Little Women follows the life of the March family. Loosely based on Alcott’s life, she cast herself as talented Jo March.
David Copperfield by Charles Dickens – David Copperfield tells the story of a young boy’s life as he struggles to become a writer. From an abusive start and many trials, the author relays the memories of his life.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling – The 7th book in the Harry Potter series brings Harry, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger back to Hogwarts for a final standoff with Voldemort and his Deatheaters.

NATIONAL COFFEE ICE CREAM DAY
If you are a coffee lover and a lover of ice cream, then this is the food holiday you look forward to every year. National Coffee Ice Cream Day is observed annually on September 6th.
This creamy and caffeinated ice cream treat is sure to satisfy your taste buds. There are those that are not a fan of cold coffee. However, when it is whipped with cream and sugar, it takes on a magical taste of its own.
Coffee ice cream has been around for many years. In 1869, coffee ice cream was used in a parfait and a recipe appeared in a 1919 cookbook for an Egg Coffee, consisting of cream, crushed ice and coffee syrup.
According to Foodtimeline.org, coffee ice cream has been a standard flavor on the Howard Johnson’s restaurant menu since at least the 1960′s, along with vanilla, chocolate, banana, macaroon, and coconut.

More on my blog
This photo is one of the last 10 shots from 2020 that I have been re-uploading at the frantic pace of ten per day in an attempt to catch up.
Tomorrow, I will start uploading another selection of oldies (I will explain which ones and why), which will take an additional 10 days or so, before we can at last move on to photos of 2021 and (hopefully!) slow down the pace a bit...
Many thanks for your patience!
Franz Schlitz was an Alsatian painter born in 1934, who passed away in the early 2000s. He is one of my favorite artists. My mother knew him well and bought a number of paintings by him, some of which have a handwritten dedication to her on the back of the canvas. He was a great landscapist and seascapist (I just coined that new word). This is a detail of one of his seascapes that I now own.
