- This 2+2 seater fixed-head (notchback) Coupé was designed by Jean Daninos (Stabilimenti Industriali Giovanni Farina S.A., Torino – Italy, an older brother of the more famous Battista 'Pinin' Farina) and built by Facel Metallon SA, Paris – France (a French subsidiary of Ford), based on the French Ford Vedette with a Mercury chassis.
- At that time they were the most expensive Ford product in the world and the only Ford automobile with custom coachwork, although it didn't even carry the Ford badge.
- Its V-8 engine, normally fitted to Ford trucks, but buyers didn’t like the idea of having a car with a "truck engine". High taxes and the high price (51% higher than a spacious four door Vendôme) didn’t made this model a “sales success”.
- During 1954, Ford SAF was sold and the Comète's final year of production took place under Simca. The Simca Comète Monte-Carlo continued to be offered till July 1955.
- It has a three-speed manual gearbox, column shifter, a Zenith-Stromberg 32 DINX carburettor, a 63 liter fuel tank and rear wheel drive.
- The Facel chassis with steel body has a 106 inch wheelbase, MacPherson independent wheel axles, a large egg-crate grille (nicknamed “coupe-frites” or a “french-fry cutter” by the French), a fake hood scoop, a ribbed stainless steel dashboard, stainless steel door handles, an impressive jet-age three-spoked steering wheel, two-colour leather seat covers, steel wheels with chromed hubcaps and hydraulic drum brakes all round.
- A four-speed manual gearbox (pont-a-mousson gearbox) was optional, just like wire wheels, Dayton wheels and two-tone colouring.
Sunset on the Flathead River in Columbia Falls, Montana. I walked over to the little park by our Home Away rental to check it out and was greeted with this view by the river as the clouds broke behind me allowing this shaft of light to come streaming though and light up the trees on the other side of the river.
Sam's going to be doing a remodel out here starting next month. So it looks like you'll be getting to see some nice of the lake and area.
We got a light, temporary blizzard last night!!! Hope it stops some day!!! lol :) Flathead is a huge lake and it's about frozen over!!!! Blows my mind!
Located in the northwest corner of the state of Montana, 7 miles (11 km) south of Kalispell, it is approximately 30 miles (48 km) long and 16 miles (26 km) wide, covering 197 square miles (510 km2). It is a similar size as Minnesota's Mille Lacs Lake, but smaller than Red Lake. It is about half the area of San Francisco Bay (main bay). It is larger in surface area than Lake Tahoe, but it is much smaller in volume due to Tahoe's depth. Flathead Lake has a maximum depth of 370.7 ft (113.0 m), and an average of 164.7 ft (50.2 m). This makes Flathead Lake deeper than the average depths of the Yellow Sea or the Persian Gulf. Flathead Lake is in a scenic part of Montana, 30 miles (48 km) southwest of Glacier National Park and is flanked by two scenic highways, which wind along its curving shoreline. On the west side is U.S. Route 93, and on the east, is Route 35.
This view of the Flathead River and valley was taken from along Red Sleep Mountain Drive through the Bison Range. I should note that many waterways in Montana are unusually full following an unusually wet spring and rapid snow melt from the mountains. In this photo it's evident that there is standing water in the area adjacent to the river, perhaps as a result of overflow, and/or the inability of low-lying soil to absorb excess water, likely a short-term issue as precipitation levels in the region have returned to seasonal norms.
The Bison Range, nee the National Bison Range. In 1908, the federal government carved 18,766 acres out of the Flathead Indian reservation for a very small bison conservation herd. Following the ensuing decades of negotiation, contracts signed and broken, purchases and sales, agreements and betrayals, and numerous legal and legislative actions, in late 2020, management of the range became a fruitful partnership between the Fish and Wildlife Service and the Confederated Kootenai and Salish Tribes (CKST) on whose land the range resides.
The range is meticulously managed to assure quality habitat for the 300-500 head of bison, plus elk, deer, pronghorns, bighorns, bears, many other small mammals, and birds, wildflowers and other native vegetation, and to maintain healthy waterways, including Mission Creek. Two loop roads and a lovely visitor center are open for public visitation for a modest fee.
This is the Hyw going to the entrance of Glacier Park. One of these days we might get back over here...probably later in the Fall when the colors are nice!!! Sam's sister lives over here so it's a nice place to stop before going to the park! Have a nice week everyone! :)
The Flathead River is right behind Kerr Dam. Let me tell you there is a lot of water over this way!!!!! Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi in the lower 48 states, with over 200 square miles of water and 185 miles of shoreline.
Boy if you want to see some glorious eagle activity....this is the area to go. We're about due for a trip over there....and it's about the perfect time too!!! :)
I wish it was still Summer and I was back here! lol...it sure is nice out today but cold. Will only be 45 degrees today and night time is freezing. Oh boy...Winter is just around the corner!! Have a great weekend everyone! :)

Old school all the way! The flathead in this beautiful roadster dynos a bit over 300 hp. I cannot overstate how flawless this car is. At the Walnut, Illinois Car Show 2022.
I had many favorites at the Hot Rod Hill Climb in Georgetown, but I think this one is my ultimate fave!
Matt has a short video clip on youtube that he made. Please watch....and turn up the volume!!
An early BNSF train No. 15 led by Burlington Northern SD40-2 No. 7047 exits Tunnel 3.9 and is about to enter Tunnel 4, east of Belton, Montana, on October 9, 1996. The train is running along the Middle Fork of the Flathead River on the scenic western portion of the Hi Line Subdivision route over Marias Pass that parallels on the southern border of Glacier National Park.
Wow....nothing like being on Flathead Lake in the summer!!! I wish everyone had a chance to visit the Flathead...it's one of the busiest places in Montana...so much beauty and so much fun! I need to go over there and take a swim now that it's getting towards the end of summer it should be at it's warmest! Hope everyone is doing well today...one more day and three off! Yay! :)
Another image of Flathead River...it's quite a large river and it seems like it's so small when I look at these images!! It's the largest contributor to the Clark Fork River that you see in so many of my images. This area over here and going towards Plains and Thompson Falls has alot of rattlesnake residents! LOL Yikes!! :P Some good fishing goes on here also!
Montana's scenic Flathead river near it's junction with the Clark Fork river. I was surprised that the beautiful teal color would last this far from it's source in Glacier Park, but it did.
The Clark Fork river has the more common blue-grey color that I'm familiar with.
Just can't compare to the glacial fed rivers.
Canada and Montana have spoiled me now.

Designed by Sir Alec Issigonis for William Morris's Nuffield Group the Morris Minor made its debut in 1948. An instant success and the baby car of its day, the new car featured rack and pinion steering, torsion bar independant front suspension and superb handling. But hampered by a flathead 918cc side valve engine.
The Series II's arrival in 1952 addressed the engine problem, with the more lively 803cc OHV BMC engine shared. with the Austin A30, albeit with a single carburettor, for the four door models, the 2 two door Saloon and the Tourer getting the BMC engine later in 1953.
In October 1954 the Minor's front end and interior styling was updated, with the addition of a horizontal slat grille and a new dash with a central speedometer. and larger tail lights from the end of the year
With Alec Issigonis departure for Alvis in 1952, (he returned in 1955) the Series II was further updated by Sid Goble for the October 1954 Earls Court Motorshow the front end and interior styling was updated, with the addition of a horizontal slat grille and new dashboard with a centrally mounted speedometer. Larger tail lights were included from the end of the year.
*This car is currently running with the later 948cc engine introduced to the Minor range from 1956
