With the fancy stacks and custom flatbed this Ford was once quite the rig. Now it appears to be dead in the grass.
Clay pipe from Lincoln, CA, Peterbilt cab-over, and me. This was my first ever load with my first ever truck. My trainer took this pic of me, his student driver. That's his truck next to mine. The morning of this day, my 2nd day on the job, our dispatcher handed me the keys to this rig and said, 'you're going to Tustin' (about 400 miles away) For personal effects I had the clothes on my back, that floppy hat in my hand and a paper sack with lunch. I was on the road for two nights and three days. I broke three of those pipes on the offload. I got permanently separated from my trainer climbing the hill on the way home. I had to tarp in the rain, in the dark, on the side of the road (my intro to tarping!). I had to roll start the truck, backwards, when it wouldn't start because the batteries were shot. And then I ran out of fuel in Lodi! (fuel gauge wrong - but did I know?) Welcome to the world of trucking...
