This wonderful old Civil War period bottle, was given to me by the closest friend I ever had. He passed away quite unexpectedly, two years ago, at age 64. This bottle is a keeper.

I could fill my late brother-in-law's whisky flask to take a nip when Flickr is going slowly. It seems fine first thing in the morning but slows down later in the day and especially in the evening 👎

Direct Rail Services Class 68s 68018 "Vigilant" and 68030 accelerate through Barnt Green with the 15:29 (29 early) 6M63 Bridgwater F.D to Crewe Coal sidings (Drs) nuclear flask.

DRS Type 3 pairing 37059 and 37611 were breezing along with little effort required to haul the brace of FNA flask wagons forming the 6M67 Bridgwater to Crewe.

For this project, I learned that it's very hard to hold the camera above the coffee table and the flashlight below the table and take the picture at the same time...

The valley flasks wait for a green light to proceed to the coal sidings.

It's hard to imagine that the owners of flint-lock firearms ever discharged their weapons often enough to deplete the contents of a powder flask, but there you have it.

The Stopford & Rowbotham famiiies disembarking from LJ55BRX at the Flask Inn after an unexpectedly sunny warm day in Whitby. All too much for Joseph Rowbotham who fell asleep and missed the exciting ascent from Robin Hood's Bay.

Public house, possibly early C18, partially rebuilt c.1767 by William Carpenter. The oval date-stone inscribed 1663 presumably refers to a stable block which has that claim. Grade II listed. Highgate West Hill, London Borough of Camden.

Not the best picture but we had little time to explore before 57 012 came around the corner after passing Foxfield station. 57 012 with 20 305 on the rear pass Skelly Crag crossing with the 6C51 1258 Sellafield to Heysham Harbour flask train. Keith Mcgovern looks on.

I took a flask of coffee and a bun with me as I planned to go to London. But the station was closed, with police and ambulances there, so I had them at home.

After photographing the very late cement train from Oxwellmains, I decided to head to Markle for the Torness Flasks, before heading back to see the now failed cement train.

Here at Markle level crossing, as the barriers start to raise, we see 68032 + 68017 on its final part of its journey to Torness. This is 6S43, 0623 Kingmoor - Torness Flask train on the 10th January 2018. Seen passing here at 0945 on a dull overcast day. It is running early here due to the Virgin East Coast Trains 1E09 booked to depart 10 minutes earlier at 0920, due to Engineering work at Newcastle

Found near the back of a high cupboard.

DRS 68005 'Defiant' powers the 6M50 Torness Power Station - Carlisle Kingmoor nuclear flask train up towards Niddrie West Junction with 68033 on the rear. As with 6S50, this train was also running early, passing Niddrie West Junction some 150 minutes ahead of schedule.

Free-blown flask of translucent light blue glass was partially inflated into a mold with regular vertical ribs. The gather was then further inflated to full size to stretch the ribbing on the surface. The ribs were then spiralled by twisting. The vessel has a conical base with a fairly deep kick and a flat disk foot. It also has a flaring rim which was made by manipulation with tongs and pincers while the piece was hot. The band around the neck was formed with a trail of hot glass dribbled around the neck. The vessel has been reconstructed from fragments and some small chips are missing from the body and rim.

9 minutes behind 4M82 is 37259 hauling 6M50 , Torness - Kingmoor, and has 20309 on the rear. This was the third flask train I had seen on this day, and each one had a class 20, not bad in 2015 !

The inverted image in the spherical lens is inverted as expected. Note also the real image location: on the near side of the flask, not inside the sphere. A real image reflected from the inner surface of a soap bubble is similarly inverted, but is inside the bubble. Images in water drops by refraction are not 'in' the drop in this sense.

The summer solstice had no bearing on the lighting conditions on this wet and thoroughly dismal Cumbrian evening. Precisely on time at 18:20, Direct Rail Services 37606 and 37611 get underway from DRS Kingmoor Depot on the last leg of their journey with the 6M22 Hunterston to Sellafield nuclear flask, seen here crossing the 1942 LMS-built Eden river bridge on 21st June 2012. 37611 was delivered new to Cardiff Canton depot in September 1963 as D6871. Subsequently carrying the numbers 37171 (1974) 37690 (1987) and finally 37611 (1995), she was acquired from the European Passenger Services fleet by DRS in June 1997. 37606 was delivered new to Gateshead depot in January 1963 as D6790. Subsequently bearing the running numbers 37090 (1974), 37508 (1986) and 37606 (1996), she was acquired by DRS from the European Passenger Services fleet in May 2002. Just 48 hours later the track on the curve in the distance, at Caldew Junction, was under water flooded by the river. You can judge how high the level of the river rose by looking at the river Eden peacefully flowing by!
