Here's one that might not be everyone's cup of tea because of the objects obstructing the view of the locos.

Class 88 electro-diesel locomotive No. 88009 Prometheus pairs up with Class 68 diesel locomotive No. 68002 Intrepid to power the 12:00 Bridgwater F.D to Crewe Coal Sidings (Drs) laden nuclear flask working away from Yatton on Monday 11th May 2020.

The flasks in question, one of which is just visible in the photograph, contain spent nuclear fuel rods from, in this case, Hinkley Point power station in Somerset. They are on their way to the reprocessing facility at Sellafield in Cumbria.

Shot during my government-permitted exercise activity, which at that time was limited to one per day. On 10th May (the previous day) the UK government announced that as from 13th May, unlimited exercise activities outside the home each day would be permitted.

TransPennine Express liveried 68029 'Courageous' and DRS liveried 68018 'Vigilant' head past Inveresk running the 6S43 Carlisle KM - Torness PS nuclear flask train.

Fair ripping along and about an hour early, 6K41 Valley-Crewe flasks on the coast at Abergele and Pensarn.

Despite the closure of Wylfa power station, the number of trains running has considerably increased, 3 a week seems a reasonable bet. It's all an Indian summer though, there is only stuff going out, none coming in, and it's not going to last forever...

In lovely afternoon sunshine, and dark clouds in the background, we see the Torness Flasks returning to Sellafield. 37609 is in top n tail mode with 37612, and are seen passing Seton on the 26th March 2015 with 6M50. This shot was taken at 1532 and was running slightly early.

A shot taken from the footbridge at Wallyford Station shows 56067 with the Flask train to Torness.

This was a Sellafield - Torness working just before DRS took over these trains. This was the last shot I got before DRS took over. Note also the brake van on the rear, also the last time I saw one on the main line.

Some nice morning sunshine coincides with the weekly 6S43 Carlisle Kingmoor - Torness flasks crossing the embankment at Thankerton headed by an 88 + 68 combo.

37610 'TS Ted Cassidy' tops new liveried classmate 37218 on the 6K74 additional weekend flasks. Seen at Acton Bridge running 85 minutes early. Taken 23/1/16

My first proper shot of DRS liveried class 20s and it took place at Cam & Dursley. It was 20308 and 20305 working an early running 13:41 Berkeley - Crewe Coal Sidings 15/4/15

In total, 14 locos will be used and all but 68033 and 34 will be in TPE livery.

...is give weeds a chance. Look at this, a number of years ago you'd find this image in the back of Rail magazine under the caption of 'Weedwatch'. The location is Conwy Morfa beach, just outside Penmaenbach tunnel and caught in the frame are the amusingly numbered 37609 and 37069 with the 6K41 Valley - Crewe flasks.

12th February 2016.

DRS Class 57s nos: 57301 and 57011 wait patiently whilst the gantry crane at Bridgwater railhead removes one of the nuclear flasks from the second FNA wagon. Once unloaded / loaded, the 57s will draw the train forward before running round the wagons. The locos will then propel the train into Bridgwater station before returning north as 6M63 11:58 Bridgwater to Crewe, this time with 57011 leading.

Free blown ribbon flask of alternating vertical lengths of three canes: two are dark blue encased in colorless glass flanked by translucent white. The third is dark blue encased in colorless glass flanked by strips of alternating blue and yellow (to form green). All three canes begin on opposite sides of the rim and continue down and around to terminate at the same point on the other side of the rim. The canes were assembled and thereafter free blown to achieve the shape.

Platystele umbellata - Marni Turkel/Mostly Species Flasks

Yeah, I'm afraid it's another shot of 37s on flasks.

As I'd suspected No.37218 was tucked in behind on 6K73.

Still, it was a nice day and I managed not to blink first and relocate when the one cloud in the sky got perilously close to the sun.

A lesser man may have buckled but I held firm at my spot just south of the foot crossing.

I may have mentioned it before but No.37682's nose ends carry a lighter shade of yellow than the norm' and always make a photo look a little odd.

The flasks were for a Tuesday trip to Sizewell.

Having started 14m. late from Crewe, and now 26m. late at 0931 today's Valley Flasks head towards Glan-y-Mor Elias crossing behind 37610 T.S. (Ted) Cassady with 2 FNAs in the consist. Since the last visit the crossing itself has had a 'refurb' and now has new galvanised gates- kissing and vehicular- set back from the wooden trackside ones and now has about 8 mts, of white palisade to position them back from the tracks! Another location off the list! See link for previous fencing.

A Saturday morning 6C46 meant that the Seaton flasks were on for Monday.

The weekend trip had been a pair of 20s so they were odds-on to take the flasks out east and sure enough this was confirmed by line-siders early doors.

I was working an early turn so if there was a flask or two for the return working I'd be able to phot' it, plus the sun was out & about so; good times.

I planned a shot at Siddick as I hadn't done 20s there in good light.

With confirmation that Nos.20304 & 20312 had return flasks in tow I waited until they'd reached Petteril Bridge Jn. at 15.58 "right time" before heading out.

FATAL mistake!

What I should have done was checked their arrival at Bog Jn. before I left the house because by the time I'd parked the car at Lowca Lane and walked through the foot crossing Petterill Bridge was still their last reporting point.

Bugger!

I checked every gen' site going but there was no info'.

When there are no westbound FNAs the light engines generally run directly to Kingmoor but obviously I was aware of the load.

On one previous occasion a loaded train had headed for KM and the train terminated with a new STP going in almost immediately, the consist then heading for Sellafield later the same evening.

I spent some time checking & re-checking RTT to no avail, until at a quarter past five a time flashed up for Currock Jn. with the train just over an hour down.

I congratulated myself for not flinching and baling out but the joy was short lived as I realised that my original shot would be doomed with the sun too far around by the time the train arrived.

This eventuality meant a half mile walk northward to where the line curved inland slightly.

You've still got turbines, just not the five I'd planned to include.

Anyway; at 17.53, some 66 minutes late, the train hoved into view.

Even had I not been wearing my glasses it would have been immediately obvious that I wasn't going to get a pair of 20s in the sun with turbines, No.20312 having been substituted for a 37, No.37606.

Oh well, it was a nice day.

Direct Rail Services Class 88 No. 88005 "Minerva" & Class 68 No. 68007 "Valiant" + 2 FNA wagons head North bound towards Spelter Works Road Sunderland working the 6M60 1336 Seaton-o-t British Energy to Sellafield B.N.F. flask working.

Direct Rail Services Class 37s 37612 and 37716 pass through Barnt Green with the second flask train of the day, the 13:56 (118 early) Bridgwater F.D to Crewe Coal sidings (Drs), just three minutes after the Berkeley.

With 1 flask only on 6S43, Kingmoor - Torness, we see 37405+37608 approach Wallyford on the 24th April 2014

This Month (August) saw the last of the flask trains to Sellafield.Movements were stopped during the duration of the Olympic Games in London but now all the spent fuel has been removed. Here a pair of class 20s wait for loading to be completed at Leiston. It was always a good day out driving round the Suffolk country lanes once the train departed to get to the next good photographic spot, although I never did manage a decent image of the class 20/37 combo!

20309 and 20305 on the 6C53 Crewe to Sellafield nuclear flasks approaches Kirkby-in-Furness 28 minutes early - 23/05/15.
