This giclee is 34 x 26 cm. Artist proof of the painting entitled - Bloomsday Re-enacted
This painting is my interpretation of the re-enactment of Bloomsday on 16th June 1958, when five men got together in Dublin to attempt to trace the steps of some of the characters in Ulysses, on 16th June 1904, from James Joyce’s novel.
The five were Anthony Cronin, writer; Paddy Kavanagh, poet; John Ryan, author and publican; Brian O’Nolan, (aka Myles Na gCopalleen/ Flann O’Brien) comic author and satirist and a dentist named Joyce. This painting is based on a photograph of them taken on Sandymount strand.

A commemorative Ulster History Circle blue plaque dedicated to Brian O'Nolan, aka Flann O’Brien, Myles Na gCopaleen was unveiled at a ceremony which took place on 1 October 2011 at 2pm at his place of birth, 17, Bowling Green, Strabane, Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland. This plaque replaced an earlier blue plaque. The O’Nolan’s also lived a short time at ‘Tulach Na Greine’ on the Derry Road, Strabane and in Ballycolman Avenue, Strabane before moving to Dublin.
The scholarships were presented by Iowa Labor Commissioner Michael A. Mauro, Paul Richmond (Iowa OSH Advisory Council Treasurer), Steven Flann (Iowa OSH Advisory Council Chair), and Jacqueline Roberts (Iowa OSH Advisory Council member).
"The gross and net result of it is that people who spent most of their natural lives riding iron bicycles over the rocky roadsteads of this parish get their personalities mixed up with the personalities of their bicycle as a result of the interchanging of the atoms of each of them and you would be surprised at the number of people in these parts who nearly are half people and half bicycles…When a man lets things go so far that he is half or more than half a bicycle, you will not see so much because he spends a lot of his time leaning with one elbow on walls or standing propped by one foot at kerbstones."

Ad maiorem Dei gloriam
Ad majorem Dei gloriam or ad maiorem Dei gloriam,[a] also known by the abbreviation AMDG, is the motto of the Society of Jesus, a religious order within the auspices of the Roman Catholic Church. In Latin, the motto means "For the greater glory of God" and is believed to have been coined by the founder of the religious order, Saint Ignatius of Loyola, as a cornerstone of the society's philosophy. This phrase is designed to reflect the idea that any work that is not evil can be meritorious for the spiritual life if it is performed with this intention, even things considered normally indifferent.[1]
When images of Saint Ignatius depict him carrying a book, the motto is often inscribed within—representative of the religious writings of the saint.
This phrase is the motto of many Jesuit educational institutions, including eight of the twenty-eight members of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, and many high schools worldwide. In Georgetown University's Gaston Hall, the phrase is followed by "inque hominum salutem", producing a longer phrase: "For the greater glory of God and the salvation of humanity."[2]
Many Jesuit schools and universities ask students to write the initialism at the tops of their papers, to remind them that even their schoolwork ought to be dedicated to augmenting the glory of God.[b][3]
The abbreviation was frequently included in the signatures of the late Pope John Paul II; Johann Sebastian Bach wrote it on his musical compositions.[3][4] It is repeatedly quoted by the Jesuit character in Flann O'Brien's book "The Hard Life".

Cross of the Scriptures: This 4-metre high sandstone cross is one of the most skillfully executed of the surviving high crosses in Ireland, and of particular interest for its surviving inscription, which asks a prayer for Flann Sinna, King of Ireland, and Abbot Colmán who commissioned the cross. Both men were also responsible for the building of the Cathedral. The cross was carved from Clare sandstone c.900. The surface of the cross is divided into panels, showing scenes including the Crucifixion, the Last Judgement, and Christ in the Tomb. The original has been moved into the visitors' centre; a convincing, if hollow, replica stands at the original site.

Here's a song ––
stags give tounge
winter snows
summer goes.
High cold blow
sun is low
brief his day
seas give spray.
Fern clumps redden
shapes are hidden
wildgeese raise
wonted cries.
Cold now girds
wings of birds
icy time ––
that's my rime.
