♥ o ♥ o ♥ Huge thanks to all of you wonderful friends for your comments and favs! ♥ o ♥ o ♥

♥ You can find the illustrated, step-by-step recipe and the article on my webzine EpicureanPiranha ~ enjoying life in tasty bites!

Muffins are a great emergency fix when you have a craving for cake! They’re quick and easy to prepare, bake quickly, and taste best warm from the oven so there’s no waiting :-)

I created these Butterscotch Pecan Bites today for my brother-in-law Ron – he loves having sweet pastries or cake for breakfast and is arriving from Alaska with my sister this evening to visit. They’re made with rich 10% fat yogurt, brown sugar, loads of tiny butterscotch bits wrapped in milk chocolate (shown in the espresso cup ~ a recent discovery ♥), and my favourite nuts, pecans.

And I will try to fix you.

So, guess what? I fixed my camera! Well, actually, my dad did, but it's fixed! My new lens, though, is broken beyond repair. So, I'm going to buy a new one! Yay!

If Glee doesn't come back soon, I'm going to die. Just kidding. November 1st, please come faster.

Finally finished the Delta Squad :D a pic of the complete squad will be posted soon. The lighting also doesn't bring out the true color of this custom, it's a lighter shade of green :p but this was the best shot I could get. Anyways, lemmie know what you all think! And if you're gonna fave, comment too please!

FIX FLATS ~ Kansas City, Missouri

Are you a cat owner who wouldn't fathom living without your feline friend, but have become frustrated with its recent "spraying" issues?

systeme.io/funnel/share/69701478e94d599b0342ef2609ed760f3...

Are you at your wits end trying to figure out how to find a solution? Look no further.

Cat Spraying No More is a system that has all you need to understand why your cat is doing what it's doing, and how to bring about a peaceful solution that will not only fix the problem, but will serve to bring you closer to your cat.

Spraying, or peeing, around the house is a big no-no, for obvious reasons; and sometimes, cats that regularly use their litter box turn to other areas of the house to urinate or spray. As a result, owners tend to focus on the issue of the mis-targeted urination, rather than on why the behavior is occurring - the key element to Cat Spraying No More.

The Cat Spraying No More System carefully outlines various scenarios of unwanted spraying and targets possible causes in an easy to understand and well-laid out format. The system eases the reader into the topic and playfully chides with owners about the author's own unfortunate experiences, how the author was able to overcome them, and how you can, too.

Since Operation Fix Long Beach started, Hope For Paws funded the spay & neuter of 200 dogs and cats (and in a few days we'll start a campaign to fix 400 more).

This service is given for FREE to people who can't afford it.

One of my best friends who is running this show is Claudia Hoffmann. She is there every weekend, rallying the troops, convincing people to spay / neuter their pets, works hard to educate the public, and works nonstop to save animals.

(If you don't know Claudia, she is at the center right next to the dog with the dark sunglasses).

Today & tomorrow we have an opportunity to give her a gift (that she doesn't even want), but the goal is really to get the story to the media about one person working hard to change her community.

Here is the link to the competition: gemsoflb.com/#contest

Please vote for CLAUDIA HOFFMANN

Thank you to everybody else involved... dedicated volunteers who are working hard to prevent the suffering of many animals.

For August's Monthly Scavenger Hunt.

Well, the idea was to blow feathers round my DIY lightbox with the hairdryer... Unfortunately feathers move too fast and promptly fly out of box! I tried out my camera's continuous shooting mode which is pretty cool but they came out quite grainy. I obviously need to play around with it when I have more time. Tried fixing in processing but things keep crashing today. And I still haven't chosen anything for round 3 of Flickr 64...eek!

Sailboat docked in Oriental, NC. I wonder what the story is behind this once beautiful boat......

This cleverly painted mural on the garage door of the bike/coffee shop carries out the cycling theme. It reproduces a map of downtown Toronto's cycling lanes and paths.

The Skylab model I’ve been working on (from purchased instructions) has been highly unstable and prone to breaking apart, almost as if it was de-orbiting over Australia. I spent some time tonight piecing it back together and decided to add a temporary support tower to bear the weight of the Apollo capsule. The module that the capsule docks with also precariously supports the solar panels and spontaneously detaches from the main body of the orbital lab. Undecided if I will have to resort to “The Kragle”.

A rare photo (from the perspective of content) as the neon R in the classic Seattle Farmer's Market sign gets replaced, as the ladder indicates.

Shot in the early morning by hand, with higher ISO, partially made up for by the rareness of this content—an iconic neon sign repair?

Artistically average ( the high ISO brings this down), but from a messaging perspective (perhaps something about repair, error, maintenance) could have value in a talk. blog post.

I really don't know anything about this photo -- no idea when it was taken, or where ...

I think that's Marvin Yourdon on the left, and Ike Yourdon on the right.

*********************************

To the best of my knowledge, most of the photos in this Flickr album were taken by my grandmother, Mabel Yourdon, during the 1920s, 30s, and 40s. Most of them depict scenes of everyday life in mining camps and small towns near the Utah-Colorado border. Some of them show hunting, fishing, and camping trips in unspecified parts of the American west. It appears that a few of them were taken in southern California, when Mabel and her husband Ike traveled out there to visit relatives.

I have no idea what kind of camera Mabel used for these photos, nor what kind of film. There probably wasn’t that much variety available in the 1920s, and she was not a “professional” photographer. So it may have been a Brownie and whatever B/W film Kodak was selling at the time.

My stepfather, Ray Yourdon, was born in 1922; and his older brother, Marvin, was born two years before that. You’ll see photos of Ray and Marvin when they were young boys, when they were in high school, and when they went off to join the Navy and the Marines to fight in World War II.

Somewhere around 2005, I asked Ray if he could tell me the details of some of the photos; where possible, I have included those details in the notes for the photos. Some of the photos obviously evoked pleasant memories, and I heard stories about minor day-to-day events in his life that I had never heard before. But we rarely got through more than a few pictures before he ran out of energy; and so many of the photos have no explanation at all.

At this point, my parents and grandparents are all gone. I have cousins who grew up in the same area where these photos were taken, and one or two of them are still in that area. They may be able to fill in a few of the details; otherwise, you’ll just have to accept these photos as a glimpse of what life was like nearly a hundred years ago ...
