Energy suppliers have cut prices, but they'd have to fall a lot more to compete with what those on fixed plans are paying.

The security alarm randomly went off... so we disconnected the audible part of it. Fixed.

Diesel railcar M79964 purrs past the fixed distant signal positioned between Ingrow and Damems stations on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway whilst forming the 1100 Keighley-Oxenhope working. The unit was one of just five built in 1958 by Donauworth-based (West) German company Waggon and Maschinenbau. The railcars saw service in Essex, East Anglia and Derbyshire before this and one of its sisters arrived at the KWVR in 1967 to help usher in the preservation era.

Here's a great protip: enamel paint burns, and thin copper melts. Hold the twisted wires in lighter fire for a few seconds and the enamel will burn away, leaving a welded copper bond.

Amsterdam-C., Houtmankade, April 12, 2012

It's been about 175 years standing for this, the humblest of churches. The soul of simplicity. It's almost never been used in my lifetime, a kind of permanent relic — kept up, then let go, then fixed up once again. This is about the nicest it's been looking since I was born. It takes the brunt of breezes off the Bay of Fundy, every storm howling without restraint up the open fields below. Inside is some old creaking pews, a foot-pump organ that doesn't function, and the stolen light of a thousand sunsets. I used to stop in dozens of times each year, but then it got locked, and no one offered me a key. Welcome shelter from the coldest winter days, it's wild how warmth rises if you just block out the wind chill. Whistling wild through the tiniest cracks between window frames or weather-worn glass. It seems doubtful that a structure this small will ever really regain its original purpose. But I hope one day that it'll exit the limbo it's long been living in.

Late summer 2010 I started collecting parts for a fixed gear bike, and finally it's finished. I painted the frameset white and black; the rest of the parts have been left in their original color.
