The Taralga Wind Farm in New South Wales, Australia, is a 51-turbine installation that can power around 45,000 average Australian homes per year. I chose the site as the foreground for a Milky Way panorama that I photographed between 1:00 & 2:00 am on Saturday 3rd of August. Like the title says, this image includes five galaxies, all visible to the naked eye, and I have also noted some other objects that were visible on the night.
The five galaxies you can see in the photo are 1. The Large Magellanic Cloud, 2. The Small Magellanic Cloud, 3. Our home galaxy, the Milky Way, 4. The Andromeda Galaxy, aka M31, and 5. The Triangulum Galaxy, M33. I admit that the fourth and fifth of those are hard to see, but they’re there in the photo, and I could see them even with my 55-year-old eyes. Also noted in the picture is the globular cluster Omega Centauri, as well as the planets Jupiter and Saturn. The photo doesn’t show how cold it was on this night, but this was the first time I’ve seen a 0-degree Celsius reading on my car’s thermometer.
I shot each of the 17 photos that make up the panorama using a Canon EOS 6D camera, a Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 lens @ f/2.4, with an exposure time of 15 seconds @ ISO 6400.

A five pack of mixed GEVOs crests over the top of Ash Hill with a Intermodal train off of Pier E in Long Beach, the train just got passed by a high priority Z-train and will follow behind it on flashing yellows down to Amboy.
Five Guys makes a tasty burger which would be a lot easier to eat if they were flatter or singles. One can order the "little burger". which I would guess is a single patty, and have no problem with distribution. No real complaints, though. It was tasty and fresh and a mess to eat. And I loved it. I might have to schedule all my flights to go through DC from now on.
Making a VERY unusual daylight appearance, WE95 heads west toward the Maumee River drawbridge at Ironville Tower, surrounded by original Wheeling and Lake Erie searchlight signals. This train is bound for CN's Lang Yard, and runs with a "push-pull" arrangement of Wheeling & Lake Erie power (with WE 4025 being the "push" in this case)
Another image from the afternoon experimenting with long exposures on the beach at Sango Sands, Durness. For a sense of scale, the pyramidal rock is over 2m high.
As mentioned previously, the white halo around the pyramid is sea spray. It was breezy when we arrived, and as the afternoon tide ebbed, the wind and sea increased in intensity. Just spectacular. This was one of the earlier images I took.
Sango Sands Beach is a small sandy cove with scattered rocky outcrops that is a photographer's paradise as the tide recedes, exposing more and more rocks further down the beach. This image gives a pleasing effect with the wash of the waves up and down this part of the beach.
Durness (Scottish Gaelic: Diùranais) is a village and civil parish in the north-west Highlands of Scotland. It lies on the north coast of the country in the traditional county of Sutherland around 190 km north of Inverness. The area is remote and the parish is huge and sparsely populated covering an area from east of Loch Eriboll to Cape Wrath, the most north-westerly point of the Scottish mainland.

Circa-1890s Boston & Maine RR station in Eagle Bridge, N.Y. ... light fades as the cloudy afternoon transitions to a snowy evening.
I keep wondering when this old depot will disappear, but it seems to be receiving some TLC now and again — it looks better now than it did a quarter century ago.

I found a set of five point Mule Deer antlers while hiking a few years ago and put them under the bird feeder for the small birds to land on and check for cats before landing on the ground. This Junco seemed to enjoy them.
It was heavily overcast so I tried setting the ISO to 3200 to test the D800's performance.

Five baby roseate spoonbills share this nursery. Actually, there was a sixth baby about two feet to left of these. I'm sure they were a mix from two nests. It seemed that the birds were all getting fed. The adults came in regularly and I couldn't tell one adult from another, because I didn't know the individual birds. There is one fairly easy way to ID individual birds. That is the coloration of the black band/area on their head.....each has a different pattern that is unique to each bird. This is a very early morning shot with fairly low light.
