A while back I purchased an album of photographs, postcards and leaflets collected at the Empire Exhibition Scotland 1938. This is a scan of a part of a publicity brochure for the Exhibition. The tower depicted was designed to be a permanent feature. It was demolished in 1939 over fears that it could serve as a useful landmark for the German Luftwaffe.
The Empire Exhibition was built in Bellahouston Park in Glasgow. At this time Glasgow was still the second largest City in the UK and in the top five in terms of population in Europe (1,088,000 people in 1931). It ran from May to October 1938 and was a show case of Modernism. 12,593,232 people visited. The population of Scotland in 1931 was 4,843,000 people ~ so the exhibition was extremely popular. This website tells you more www.empireexhibition1938.co.uk/ . This compares favourably to the Millennium Experience of 2000 held in the Millennium Dome in London ~ which only managed 6.5 million visitors across an entire year.
Yes, Lillian turned five months old in March. Can you believe it's already been nearly half a year? We sure can't! She has brought pure joy into our family! We are truly blessed.

I find so many of these in my backyard. It's so dry here the poor snails become dessicated very fast.

Images of these five men were everywhere, painted on houses and other buildings and sometimes by the roadside. They are the five Cuban men accused of spying by the US and given life sentences. It has been ten years since they were incarcerated and the Cubans hope that with the election of Barack Obama, they may be allowed to return home.
I never been to a Five Guys aside from the one in Sydney but they have these everywhere

The first time I saw one of these things, I thought it was some kind of plastic artificial plant. They are very real! More gold, more "good fortune and wealth" for New Year celebrants.
UPDATE: This is called the five-finger fruit, or five generations plant. The thick end usually has five nodules on it, and traditionally it represents longevity. The Chinese consider it good luck, for instance, to have five generations living together.

An Essex Wire liveried Datsun 510. I don't know if this is a genuine Essex team car - they were known for running a 427 Cobra in USRRC events and a GT40 at LeMans. I couldn't find anything about the team running Datsuns, but I rather like the idea of the team doing so against the BRE cars in the Trans-Am. It's a super cool car, nonetheless.
