The interior of the Matsumoto Castle, first floor.
The pillars are made of hemlock, cypress and pine. Probably this room was uses for storage of food, weapons and ammunition.
And there isn't much light inside!
Visiting the castle means climbing up a series of very steep staircases. You have to watch your head too, as people were a lot smaller when the castle was built in the late 16th century!
The castle is a hirajiro which means it was built on a plain rather than on top of a mountain and today the castle sits in the centre of Matsumoto City.
Matsumoto Castle (松本城 Matsumoto-jō), Matsumoto City, Nagano, is the oldest existing castle in Japan and one of Japan’s premier historic castles. It also known as the “Crow Castle” (烏城 Karasu-jō) because of its black exterior.
It is listed as a National Treasure of Japan.

There were also 2 rooms, the first one used to store the mosque's stuff (lamps, oil, books, etc.).

Workmen seen boarding up windows and doors on the west side of the Illinois State Capitol Building on Saturday, January 16, 2021, as U.S. state capitals and Washington brace for potentially violent pro-Trump armed protests in wake of the U.S. Capitol Attack. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker on Friday activated 250 National Guard troops following warnings from the FBI of potential threats to state capitols leading up to the presidential inauguration. The troops are being stationed at Camp Lincoln in Springfield, minutes away from the State Capitol Building should their presence be needed.
At the end of the Hall of the Five Hundred a small windowless side room was held. This masterpiece, the Studio (Studiolo) of Francis I de Medici, was also designed by Vasari and executed in Mannerist style (1570-1575). The walls and vaults are completely covered with paintings, stucco and sculptures. Many of the paintings are from Vasari's school and represent the four elements: water, earth, air and fire. The portrait of Cosme I and his wife, Leonor de Toledo, was made by Agnolo Bronzino. The delicate bronze sculptures were built by Giambologna and Bartolomeo Ammannati. Dismantled over the centuries, they were rebuilt only in the twentieth century.

The upstairs central corridor at Z Ward, flanked by the open doors of inmate bedroom cells. The ceiling was much higher than downstairs, with tall cathedral windows.
Z Ward was a separate building at the Glenside Mental Hospital that catered for the criminally insane. Built in 1885, it is now empty and preserved by the National Trust.

Siena's soldiers wore different green flags, some donated by the king of France, who supported them. Dante's verses about seeking freedom (Purgatory, Canto I, 71-72), were embroidered on several of these green flags, it was a way for Siena's troops to express that they were fighting to defend their own freedom. But those Siena soldiers, looking for freedom, found defeat instead. This was the sarcastic message that Cosimo I wanted to express, and so he asked Giorgio Vasari to paint the words “fence trova” (something like, search find) on a green flag. Try to find these words in the fresco. Without binoculars or a good zoom, it's impossible!

The other rooms on the first floor are the Monumental Apartments (Quartieri monumentali).
These rooms, residence of the Priors, and the Apartments of Leon X (Quartieri di Leone X), have been used for a long time as rooms for the representation of the 'Sindaco'; however, they have recently become, in part, accessible to tourists (Sala de Leão X and Sala de Clemente VII), included in the former office of 'Sindaco'.
The ceiling, made of 39 panels, was built and painted by Vasari and his workshop. It represents 'Important episodes in the life of Cosme I', the neighborhoods of the city and the city itself. The 'Scene of glorification as Grand Duke of Florence and Tuscany' stands in the center.

The six statues along the walls represent the "Labors of Hercules" are the work of Vincenzo de 'Rossi and collaborators, executed between 1562 and 1584 and placed in the hall in 1592 on the occasion of the baptism of Cosimo, the eldest son of Ferdinando I de 'Doctors. A seventh statue of Hercules supporting the globe of Atlas was transported after 1620 to the entrance of the villa of Poggio Imperiale and still stands there today.

Whilst we were in Greece we did a lot of urban exploration, simply because there were so many abandoned buildings which were easily accessible. This hotel was one of my favourites, an extensive building three floors high situated on top of a hill, next to the dramatic Venetian fort with the most amazing views over the sea.

Raisin' it up / Waxen it down / In a little white box / That I can sell uptown
