The JNUSU General Secretary had written to you on August 30, 2007 regarding .

the dilapidated condition of the bridge next to the artificial lake, connecting .
ofthe bridge has been a source ofconcern since passers by have noticed strong vibrations.

2007, a mishap finally did take place, when the road sunk and a bus got stuck. It .
was only afterthis mishap that the JNU administration chose: to wake upto the seriousness of the situation and take some action. It is extremely unfortunate that in spite of .
being info,rmed ofthe impending dangerfor several months priorto this accident, .
and in spite of the JNUSU's letter warning of the danger, the JNU administration .
did not take any action. .
During the past few days, there have been other accidents on the campus that have.

raised serious concerns regarding safety ofthe students. A part ofthe boundary wall .
hostel also collapsed, which could have had extremely serious consequences had anyone .
ofGodavari hostel collapsed lastweek. A balcony wall in firstfloor ofthe Narmada .
been standing underneath on the ground floor. .
In spite ofstrong objection from large numberofteachers and disapproval from the student .
community, for past several month, s the campus has V'!itnessed a spate of completely .
uncalled for construction and 'renovation' activities in the school buildings involving .

retiling after dismantling of perfectly good flooring, fresh flooring in new buildings that are .
J yet to be put to use, and replacing furniture which is in perfectly good condition. .

In contrast, in a display of complete insensitivity, itresponsibility and misplaced .

priorities, the administration has been systematica!i~~· ;gnoring the urgent need for .
OAT etc. It is a source of serious concern for JNU stude~ts that the JNU administrationrenovation and maintenance ofold hostels and building·s, and othercampus facilities like .
shows no concern for the safety and security of stude:~ts, while the poorly maintained . .
