In my childhood I have seen the cockchafer every spring, but in the last 20 years I have not seen a single one.

A few days ago I cleaned my bus with the high-pressure cleaner at a gas station, when I saw a large, lifeless beetle lying on its back in a pool of water. I took him directly in hand and looked after him, he lived and when I turned him, I realized to my joy what it is. I looked around to find a nice place for the Maybug to have his peace, but unfortunately there was not a nice place there. So I took him home quickly, because I live just around the corner.

Of course I had to use the opportunity to free my favorite lens from hibernation..

I put him in our cherry tree and watched as he pumped with his abdomen and just a few moments later he flew away towards the sun.

A great experience for me and a wonderful start to the macro year 2018.

Fledgling baby Bluetit:)

My parents (mainly my mother) took an interest in assisting the monarch butterfly population. First they purchased a bunch of milkweed and planted it in the backyard. Then they decided to rear a small bunch of butterflies to maturity. We'd never done this before. I didn't take pictures of the caterpillars (that's the stage at which they acquired them), but I did take several pictures of the chrysalides, the process of emerging, and the butterflies themselves (one fresh out of the chrysalis). We all became kind of "attached" to them during this process. My mother really wanted a picture or video of one of them flying free out of the incubator/habitat. But it's really difficult to know when, exactly, that will happen. The butterflies spend a lot of time just hanging around in there, pumping and drying their wings. There are several false starts, when they start fluttering and making their way towards the opening. So, I put my camera on burst mode and sat there for quite some time. In fact, we watched the butterflies emerging and pumping and drying for a good two or three hours. Finally, one made a break for it. I said, "Oo!! There it goes!" and frantically started pointing and shooting. I really didn't think I got anything. But I was wrong. I caught one on it's maiden voyage!! Happy Trails to Mexico! Safe travels!

A 17seconds slow motion showing one of the first flights by one of my 6 newborn Lovebirds on the notes of "Helikopter" by Fazlija, put by the musician at disposal of videomakers. The first and last photo faded in the video show my parrots in activity playing at their mini gym.

My lovebirds are today from 39 to 50 days old for the first born one. Five of them are beginning to fly, the smallest one, Vittoria, the albin "pallid" not yet but she is already able to climb the little wooden staircases, a toy helping her to train and climb up to the entrance of her crib. She can also hold firmly on the lil swing for parrots as it will be seen in the next photos I will share.

Very soon she will learn to fly too!

"Helikopter" is a meme song which went viral, especially on TikTok.

A personal message by the singer and composer Fazlija:

"Thanks so much for the support! This is made for you people! Support the new version of „Helikopter“ and let the world know what power TikToker’s have!!! Have fun and be a Helikopter :D"

Sunrise first flight. These Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus) chicks had been exercising their wings for several days, sometimes rising into the air in perhaps surprise. Finally they would fly to a near limb but still stay close to their nest. Finally they wandered afar. As you see them, all five could not get in that nest at the same time, they were too big. Image taken at Chatfield Reservoir in Colorado.

An imaginative creation, part of the Lowestoft "First Flight" displays at Lowestoft First Light Festival. This one, I think was created by the Men's Shed. These art pieces don't need to be practical!

From staring at the nest (maybe saying so long), to taking practice jumps and small flights in her tree (where she has spent the last two and 1/2 months or so), to finally taking that leap of faith and flying from her home to a nearby tree. A visit back this morning showed no signs of her...not sure I'd head back so soon either if I'd just realized I could fly!

Maiden flight of the first Airbus A330neo Prototype (F-WTTN, MSN 1795). Seen here is the first low approach before landing at the end of a successful 4 hour first test flight. Powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 high-bypass turbofan engines with a bypass ratio of 10 (compared to 5 on the Trent 700). Besides the new engines, the wing features numerous improvements, most visible being the blended sharklets extending the wingspan by 3.7m.

The small orange parachute at the end of a long cable is a static pressure port towed by the aircraft from the fin. This port, sampling relatively undisturbed air, is used to calibrate the static pressure sensors of the aircraft. It is a standard fit on all civilian prototypes.

Chicken just flew out.

I saw three of them flying out actually. First they were exercising with their wings.

Will upload these pictures later.

A very beautiful Panda livery on this A350, the first for Sichuan Airlines, seen here during her first flight. The airframe, MSN 060 F-WZFK, was originally built for Sri Lankan Airlines, but the order was cancelled. Now she flies as B-301D for Sichuan.
