Today is the vernal equinox, the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, occurring at 1732 UT (1:32 PM EDT). The sun rose at due east this morning, and in line with the lady osprey in her nest in the Potomac at Belle Haven Marina.

Finally spring has arrived! Happy first day of spring to everybody :-)

Visit me on Facebook!

The first day of Spring was marked by morning snow - but that didn't stop the faithful from making a pilgrimage to Saunders Hardware on Valley Road in Upper Montclair NJ from to check out the Weber Grills.

The details on the original size are incredible!

It’s officially the first day of spring and what a better indicator of spring than daffodils…

"Revo" (on the right) has really grown! Remember when he was a little baby? (see the picture down below)

Not only is the sun shining all day, the temperature is up to 50 degrees.....but ALL the crocus are open all the way. YEA!!

I´m so happy!!! Today was the first spring day of the year. And look how people are absorbing every ray of sunlight they can get! Shot in front of the "Residenz", downtown Munich.

I took this picture of my front yard in New Jersey on March 20, 2009, after spring had supposedly arrived at 7:44 A.M. - about an hour and a half later, in fact.

A Mr. Jack Frost didn't get the memo.

Yes, it snowed that morning, but by early after noon it was all gone.

i was just sure at noon today, 1st day of Spring, the sun would come and and the birds start singing....no such luck, (yet :)

Some people build snowmen. I build tributes to Easter Island.

Today is the first day of Spring and it snowed in Dallas. It's March!

It's not supposed to snow in North Texas in March.

After the last set of snow, I had wished I had only another chance for a little more snow to try and create an Easter Island Head in the snow. Looks like I got my chance.

A better view.

Hudson is now about 15 months old, and just about the same size as his mom!

Spring is here! Winter is over! Stock up on some Lortadine, Zyrtec, Claritin, Singulair and watch the flowers bloom!!

"I can think of few plants that add as much to the winter garden as the incredible Edgeworthia Chrysantha and I hope everyone will add one to the garden."

-Tony Avent, Plant Delights Nursery

As a renowned plant explorer and American Horticulturist, Mr. Avent should know!

All summer, this rather spindly, amazing, otherworldly-like daphne relative is adorned with tropical-looking leaves that drop by mid-December to reveal it’s wonderful bark and large, silvery, terminal flower buds.

These buds open steadily from mid-January to early April with “an overwhelmingly fragrant display of pendent, golden yellow flowers.”

We can’t think of a better way to say

“Happy First Day of Spring!”

Theme: Words

For "A Day in the Life Of" group pool on flickr, I document my day--this first day of spring. The theme is "words." Are words important?

Jim and I picked up Lyn for a dinner out together. It was a nice evening, and we are sorry that Lyn will be flying back to England tomorrow.

I took this photo at lunch today while walking around Duke Gardens and thought it worked well for leading lines. Of course, I'll probably find a better example tomorrow, but I like this one. I hope you enjoy it as well.

Cheers,

Wade
