Somewhat surprised to see this used in a public amenity planting in view of the dangerousness of its easily-released caustic latex. They are on a dual-carriageway central reservation (Palm Beach Avenue) at least, rather than next to footpaths/sidewalks.

Was away for the last few days on a trip to South India. I attended my first
ever Rock Concert. Aerosmith performed at Palace Grounds in Bangalore. And
what a performance it was! Steve Tyler at his best, and Joe Perry hypnotized
us with his insane guitaring. Had a ball!
Anyways, first of all, I am gonna be a lil less frequent to Flickr from now
due to certain responsibilities. I shall try to keep up with your photos as
much as possible. But if I don't, please do not mind.
This photo, the hundredth of my Photostream, is dedicated to Aravindakshan,
the subject of this photograph, and the person who first taught us
Photography and inspired us all. He's off to Purdue in the near future to

We have finally ditched Virgin. Not because they aren’t any good as an entertainment service - they’re great, on the whole - but solely on cost. Our area hasn’t had fibre broadband for years and we’ve been stuck with Virgin for fast Internet access. It really was the only game in town if we wanted to stream programmes over Netflix and the like.
No longer, however. We have discovered that BT have finally got their fingers out and expanded Infinity into our area, so we’ve signed up. We have more than halved our subscription cost at a stroke. Virgin tried to match it, but too late - that ship has sailed. They’ve been gouging us for years; so long My Branson.
We’ve had diminishing needs to record stuff too. There are so many catch-up services that we rarely ever need to actually record anything, so we’ve also had an aerial installed (we didn’t have an aerial at all when we moved in seven years ago) so now we can also receive terrestrial telly too, so we didn’t have to sign up to the BT television services.
We discovered, unfortunately, that our second telly in the sun-room only has a standard definition TV receiver, so no BBC One HD for us - problematic if we wanted to watch Blue Planet II. What to do? I could have bought one of those lovely PVR devices but the good ones are rather expensive, so I decided to get a Now TV Smart box. This includes a HD receiver and some smart TV apps too.
First impressions are generally favourable. It has a nice interface and does a good job with the telly reception, but the channels are not numbered and it’s a long way to scroll down to BBC One HD from the normal BBC One. There’s no Netflix or Amazon Video (Sky, you SUCK) and you cannot side-load apps any longer. I’d have probably been better getting a vanilla Rogo box, but this came with a 3 months voucher for Sky Entertainment, so was essentially free. I quite like it, and I can still get Netflix and Amazon video on both the Firestick and Sony DVD player attached to that TV, but it’s a bit disappointing that it’s missing some simple improvements.
Goodbye Virgin, we liked you, but you were like a funny friend with lots of good stories, but with a tendency to not get your round in (and eat all your food). Too expensive, and, ultimately, a bit of a pain in the arse.

In the lovely Jamaica, this man performed for many. My brother in standing with his hands on his hips, right behind the performer. Nick was waiting for the performer to include him in a special trick. It was pretty awesome!

At the "Out of the Ordinary" festival, the fire display ended with the firestick people swirling like crazy until their flames went out.

Standing within 260 acres of Parramatta Park, Old Government House is Australia’s oldest public building. For seven decades it was the ‘country’ residence of 12 early governors of the colony, including Governor and Mrs Macquarie who, from 1810 to 1821, preferred the clean air and space of rural Parramatta to the unsanitary and crime ridden streets of Sydney Town.
The central block of the house was built in 1799 by Governor John Hunter, however the appearance of the house today is largely thanks to Governor and Mrs Macquarie. Their 1815 extensions, designed by Macquarie’s Aide Lieutenant John Watts, transformed the house into an elegant Palladian style residence in the English manner. Visitors to the property today can step straight into the fashions of 1821, with their Anglo and Indian influences and strong emphasis on colour. A meticulously researched ‘soft furnishings’ program has transformed the main rooms of the house to recreate the tastes and styles of Mrs Macquarie, influenced as they were by distance and a climate very different to ‘home’. Rooms are furnished with pieces from the National Trust’s collection of early colonial furniture; the largest collection in Australia.
Old Government House was built on Darug land, home to the Burramatta tribe. There is evidence of their occupation on the site; the firestick management of land and trees which still bear the scars of bark stripped to build canoes. In Old Government House, you can see how shells from Aboriginal middens were used to strengthen household mortar. The property is considered both a European and Aboriginal archaeological resource of national significance and is a unique and rare demonstration of the evolution of New South Wales and Australian society since 1788.
Stepping into the surrounds of Old Government House is richly evocative of a past of individual craftsmanship, from thick slabs of sandstone flag, to recessed doorways two foot wide and a stunning hand cut crystal chandelier. The house and garrison buildings are set within the lush parklands of the former Governor's Domain, now Parramatta Park, with sweeping views overlooking the Parramatta River.
Candy floss! As vegans it was important to us that the day was an amazing reflection of how fun and non-intimidating veganism can be. We had popcorn and biscuits (cookies!) during the mingling time, then tortilla chips, salsa and guacamole on tables during the speeches. Then the dinner was a hot buffet of five bean chilli, roasted vegetables, onion rings, baby sweetcorn firesticks, jacket potatoes, poblano rice and salad. We had wedding cake and fruit to follow, then candy floss available all evening! Not just candy floss though, but fairtrade candyfloss! Then there were late night chips (fries) at about 10pm, just when everyone's a bit drunk from dancing and needs a perk up.
The food was amazing, we were so proud.
