Spinning fire at the 9th Anniversary of Paris Poï AD+

These startling images show a voodoo ceremony that we attended where believers who are possessed by spirits walk on fire and chew hot coals.

... on one of the tiniest Euphorbia plants I have seen.

Footnote: the man that owned this plant didn't know what it was called, but he was surprised to know that it is the same Family as the 'firesticks' that are growing so beautifully in front of his white picket fence. His wife is the expert apparently.

Subtle yet effective. Candles hand painted with their own colour is quietly classy. Beautiful illumination from within when lit. These are available online now :-) Excellent value.

French Beach, 2:30ish AM.

Erika sat by the fire to be warm and dim the intense light, Joram played the alien and spun the firestick, I rocked out the headlamp and backwards writing. We all experienced much awesomeness.

I love the island.

Writing with firesticks in the evening after a campfire at MacDonell Lake, British Columbia in northern Canada.

Firm favourite. Rich warm colours reflect the African landscape. Available now in the UK :-)

A reasonable sized group hangs out along side the river Meuse playing with fire each night.

PENCIL CACTUS IS NOT A CACTUS

This succulent is known also as;

Milk Bush

Firestick plant

Indian tree Spurge

Pencil Cactus comes from tropical parts of Africa and India. In nature, it grows as a 30-foot tall, leafless tree with pencil-size green branches that function in photosynthesis. Tiny leaves appear at the ends of new branches when new growth occurs, but they quickly fall.

Pencil Cactus produces a POISONOUS white latex when the stem is cut. The toxic component found in the sap are thought to be Diterpene Esters.

There are a few minutes of amazing light well before Sunrise when there is both light and some darkness when the diffuse light produces amazing color. The fire sticks captured with a Leica M11 EV1 and 0.95 noct lens to capture the vivid reds in the predawn light.

...on day the cave-dwellers trio as they now called themselves where exploring the cave system, mostly to rediscover the entrance hole of the mage and perhaps use it to climb up again...

Iffy Esmeralda´s dog started making weird sound and darted off in to the darkness and he came back with a human femur bone he was gnawing on...

Esmeralda asked puffy where he got it, so he lead the other two in to a cavern at first they didn´t see that much since this part was darker than the surrounding cavern, the heat had started to increase gradually until it was so hot and burning they hardly could breath, then the saw a faint glow from outlined by a jagged darkness like the jaws of a fanged beast and the glow seemed like a gigantic breath of fire and brimstone...

the wizard used a firestick to lighten the room up...

The wizard said: oh it is a dragon, I think and look at all this gold, we are rich I can repay my debts...

The queen replied: Rich for what use, right now no one will come and reclaim you debts because no one knows where you are...

and by the way out out that scientific phosphorus stick, it might wake the dragon up and please do speak with slightly smaller letters... we don´t wan´t to wake this beauty up do we, judging by the human remains it likes people for dinner and I don´t mean a banquette at the palace...

- ok, I will be more silent dear Esmeralda, funny I though dragons were instinct since the age of the Horror-lizards

- Yes and I thought Dragons only existed in my husband drunken fantasies when he was braging about his amazing deed no one believed in except for the village fool..

-Ok lets, go back and make a plan on how to loot this golden treasure...

- Dear Mage, why are you so concerned about gold, we live in a cage, no one will try to get money out of you here...

- Dear Esmeralda I am not so certain you are right about that...

the ones I owe is not from this world, well I owe the Mayor, eh I mean the emperor some but that is not my main worry...

Photos of firesticks in our small garden

University of Arizona Arboretum, Tucson, Pima County, Arizona

Captured with noct lens in dim light

Starting with one cutting I now have dozens of plants, a few that are monsters 7-8 feet tall. Winter as it cools these turn red and in the light before dawn the plants glow red in the redder light well before Sunrise.

Its interesting how alot of areas here in Oz have their own history, sadly there is a pretty common theme to this history and it involves the traditional owners of the land and their subsequent displacement, sometimes quite bloody. I recently did some research into this area to discover the culture and stories behind the land.

The local traditional owners of this land are known as the Bundjalung People, of which the National Park takes its name, in the middle of the 18th century there was a massacre of about 100 women and children in this area. It is said that you can still hear the sounds of the ghosts and see the lights of the firesticks on the river.

Whilst that's a pretty spooky thought (and i hope i never see it cause that would freak me out :( plus i need to concentrate on not getting eaten by snakes, face slapped by spiders and not falling on my ass, all of which takes alot of concentration :) ). Hence i think its better to see these spirits in the more beautiful and positive things that are around the area, like the wonderful seascapes, flora and fauna and in the case of this morning, the rainbow that lit up the morning from the point.

So, here's to you the Bundjalung People, and what its worth, I am sorry for the shit that was heaped on your people by the white settlers.

The rainbow was a full arc (faded in and out over the 10 minutes it was there), however I really like the way the foreground pool illuminated with the soft light and the glow in the clouds complimented the rainbow. It was a constant battle with the rain and wiping the filter, however I did finally get a few shots that i was happy with. This particular one is a stitched vertical panorama of 2 frames. I just needed that extra little bit of frame to give the pool and rainbow some breathing space.

Climate Australia 'Firesticks' are immensely popular and almost ubiquitous in cafes. Excellent heat source on chilly evenings.

Mein neues Frühstücksmesser für Outdooraktivitäten !

Es ist absichtlich nicht die Edelstahlvariante. (Stichtwort Firestick)

Die Wahl fiel auf dieses Messer, da es sehr einfach und anpassungsfähig ist.

The adjacent firesticks quickly loose heat in the shade and equilibrate the larger Saguaro that heated for many hours before the clouding is slow to shed its retained heat. Note the thicker stems of the firestick retain heat longer which is expected.
