BIG MOUTH: contemporary feminist voices in art and illustration
OPENING AUGUST 9 @ BROOKLYN FIREPROOF
a group show featuring
Suzy Exposito / Molly Fair / Kim Funk / Kathleen Hanna
J. Morrison / Adee Roberson / Gabby Schulz
Curated by Kate Wadkins + Lauren Denitzio, BIG MOUTH: contemporary voices in feminist art + illustration is a platform for unpopular visual opinions. Feminist movements have historically grown out of interventions within radical communities in the face of silence, anger, and often, violence. Still, these conflicts and contentions are fought with the utmost passion and humor in hopes for a radical resolution. BIG MOUTH illustrates the ever-evolving search for feminist/queer identities and communities. This group show places feminist narratives at the center of radical art-making, where often our voices are poorly represented or left out altogether. BIG MOUTH is a celebration of our pluralism, our goofiness, and a proclamation of defiant love.

Mike Kaufman & Wayne Feldman play Brooklyn Fireproof - their last 12 hour performance/equipment sale.
Things that make you go Hmmmmm?
(pic taken out the front window of my truck while stopped at a light - I didn't get as much of the fire hydrant as I'd like and windshield bug smears are evident but oh well...I liked the irony anyway)
The Rogers Hotel opened in 1914. It was promoted as a first-class "fireproof" hotel, boasted 75 rooms.

Dear Tillie,
Rec’d your letter yesterday and regret to hear that papa has been sick. Is he better?
Have [not] heard a word from home [Owego, New York] in over a week.
You can address me next week to the Regent in Detroit, Mich. Week after the Miles, Cleveland, Ohio. Any-time your [sic] in doubt, address the Pantages B.O. N-Amer. Bldg. Chicago, Ill., care of Jamesy.
Am sending [his older brother] Art some music to-day. Let me know if he get it, as I never hear from him.
Do you like that song “The Vamp”? It’s a big hit here.
Played past two days at South Chicago to a lot of “bohunks.”
We are leaving to-night for Detroit to play Sat. and Sunday at the Orpheum, then go to the Regent.
When I went through Bingo [Binghamton] that night, I was pretty far gone. Dead to the world.
Langford and Frederick do a wonderful act together, staged in full stage, in a fashion shop, talk up to the minute.
Some celebration! And I missed it, too. I regret it every time I think of it.
Jimmy O’Neill [probably this person: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_O%27Neill_(actor,_born_1863)] was up to see the act last night and says it is a wonder. Took us home in his car. Had “Chop Suey” — was great! This Miss [Hazel] Kirke [at this point Fritz’s stage partners were Jimmy Casson and Hazel Kirke] is [O’neill’s] sweetie and he books the Pan[tages] time — hence we’re booked for 1 year.
The ride home was wonderful. Chicago has it all over N.Y. for beauty.
Glad Art is singing songs sent him. Tell him to write. “For Me and Mary” is a swell song. Is he singing “Honky Tonk” song? “Sand Dunes” “Friends” etc. Tell him to get busy on the “Vamp”.
Regret to hear of the death of Geraldine’s sister. Am writing to her today.
Yes, James [i.e., Jimmy Casson] and Hazel do a beautiful waltz to “Rose Maid,” then close with “[There’s a Lot of Blue-Eyed Mary’s down in Maryland.” [youtu.be/cOE-imCe3Ao?si=_Ta78h2xN-SITKjG] Great song!
Wished I had some of Mama’s beer. The beer here is terrible. What did the musicians think of it?
Did I love you that night when I was drunk? Gee, it affects me funny!
I have a nice girl here in Chicago I go to see occasionally. A Miss Cleveland by name. Has a sister in Bingo. Some nice girl! By the way —
How is the little ticket-seller at the Stone [Theater in Binghamton]?* Does she ever speak to you?
When I come back from Detroit and Cleveland, I’m going to buy a swell suit and overcoat here, also a new hat. You’ll understand why I haven’t sent any money home, but I will later.
Did you see the “Miracle Man”? [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Miracle_Man_(1919_film)] Great picture.
Must close now with love and kisses to you all, I remain
Your loving brother,
Fritz
P.S.: Am writing [their sister] Jane to-day.
