Photinus pyralis - to catch fireflies, shutter 1/500, aperture f8.0, set the flash to weak, iso 50 or 100, set manual focus close, about 2-3 inches, point the barrel and try to gauge the focus distance. they hover, take off, flash and hover. get ready on the flash and take on the hover.
This side is Denyse Schmidt - Aunt Edna Multi Leaf on Mini Dot - navy. I used red buttons and grosgrain ribbon.

Here it is getting ready to take off and fly right into my face.
At this time of year, fireflies light up all over my front yard at dusk, resulting in a nice thing about living in Texas: sitting on the porch with a glass of wine around sunset, and watching the fireflies cruising for tricks.

Lucidota atra is a day-flying firefly that glows as a larva -- and as a pupa, obviously! -- but not as an adult. (Don't ask my why! What is is glowing for, if not in order to find a mate?) Found it in decaying leaves while gardening. Looks pretty far along, & in fact I observed adults in the area the following day.
