Following an accident earlier in the year this lovely plane, rebuilt by the owner and an engineer, is at present in four pieces being repaired but will be back in the air in a few months.
Photinus pyralis or the Big Dipper Firefly. Also known as the Common Eastern Firefly. They posses a bioluminescence, that means they can emit light naturally from their bodies. Even as pupae they glow. They use this flashing light to find a mate. The female usually can be found on the ground flashing while the male flies above flashing back. The male has steroid within it's body that it uses to repel spiders, like a spider repellant. Mainly the Jumping Spider. The firefly free bleeds out a cocktail substance from it's body that is sticky for slowing down predators. Tastes bad to others, like birds. And repels spiders. And on top of that, Kids LOVE them. They can sure be fun on a hot Summer night.
Not sure what this guy is either. He was pretty small and super iridescent. I was not able to properly capture this beauty as well.
