It's Hard To Say That I'd Rather Stay Awake When I'm Asleep
Cause Everything Is Never As It Seems
When I Fall Asleep
Leave My Door Open Just A crack
Please Take Me Away From Here
Cause I Feel Like Such An Insomniac
Please Take Me Away From Here

Hooray for Summer!
A little firefly made of paperclips, at ATtiny13 and an LED. It capacitively senses its body to determine if it is being touched, waking up every ten seconds or so on watchdog to do this.
If it's being touched, it'l start pulsing its LED gently, flashing a random number of times for a random duration each time before going back into a deep sleep.
Female firefly on a blade of grass in my backyard. She may or may not have been impressed with the off-camera strobe going off above her, but several males landed nearby while I was shooting. They were probably thinking, "Holy cow!"

I wasn't sure what to do for tonights shot but i knew i wanted it to be a dark shot in regards to the last few days. So i popped my head outside and saw it wasn't raining, grabbed my camera and shot away. It was origionally going to be under a streetlamp but as i was still early didn't want anyone seeing me pose for my camera! Im not yet that confident, though if im honest i did see a few curtains move...glad i live in a quiet close, it could have been worse!
I liked the origional shot but then just wanted to see what the shot would look like with some layers, and hey presto! Reminded me of the gold dust from the book northern lights/golden compass, as the film was awful!
This is a sampler I made for a friend for the holidays. She loves Firefly. This is a quote from one of the characters (Wash), said by the Stegosaurus to the T-Rex.

Taken using a Tamron 10-24mm Wide Angle Lens at 10mm, ISO 165 f/3.5 25 sec (512 exposures).
Captured from about 12AM to 3:30AM - I'm glad I was able to catch the beginnings of the sunrise!
If you look closely, you'll see little blips and lines of yellow light throughout this image. At first glance I thought they were dead pixels, but then I realized they were made by fireflies!

This Waymo Firefly is one from a series of testing vehicles for autonomous driving. It doesn't have a steering wheel or other controls for the driver. In 2015 it was used for the world’s first totally self-driving trip in Austin, TX. Waymo stopped use of the Firefly in 2017 and now has a fleet of adapted vehicles from regular car brands. This one is currenty on display in the Design Museum in Den Bosch for an exhibition about design from California.
This time lapse photo shows three moving objects. The green glow in the foreground is the trail of a firefly. A straight blinking trail of an airplane is just above and to the left. At the top right is a faint meteor trail. You may need to go to a large image to see this as mentioned by Donna.

This is a very simple sonobe-like unit. I can not undersand, why nobody hasn't found this form before! I've searched in all books I have - I didn't find it!
