Fairy Firefly F MK.1 Z2033 in storage at the Fleet Air Arm Museum reserve at Cobham Hall near to the main museum at RNAS Yeovilton.

Built at Hayes in 1944 with construction number F5607, this Firefly was issued to 15 maintenance unit at Wroughton in April of that year and then moved to 731 NAS at Easthaven in March 1945. Following a taxiing accident it went to Fairey Aircraft at Hamble for repairs in August 1945, after which it was used in spinning and other trials at Fairy's Ringway site and at Boscombe Down. It was eventually converted to a TT Mk.1 and sold to Sweden in 1949 and used by the Swedish Air Force as a target-tug for 13 years. In 1964 it was acquired by Skyfame Aircraft Museum at Staverton, and then by the Imperial War Museum in 1978 at Duxford who still own it. It has been on loan to the Fleet Air Arm Museum, Yeovilton since 2000, but moved back to Duxford in 2024.

It is painted in Pacific theatre markings of Firefly DK431 / 275 of 1771 Squadron RN, HMS Implacable 1945, the personal aircraft of CO Lt Cdr MacWhirter (but retaining its original serial Z2033). The nose art includes a map of Japan on the forward fuselage and the name 'Evelyn Tentions' on the cowling.

Photo was taken at night in complete darkness. An overcast sky acted as a reflector of the light coming from a town several miles away. Enough of this light was captured during the 30 second exposure to make the photo appear to have been taken during daylight hours.

Nearly a two hour time lapse image of the night sky. It seems like a pretty standard startrail image, but upon closer inspection, hundreds of small yellow streaks are visible throughout the photo. These streaks are fireflies captured using long exposure.

Looks a little angsty here, but this is Gina Torres, who plays Zoe on Firefly. Another one who was difficult to find a good screenshot of. I settled on this reference piece, and tweeked the rather cool colors to something warmer. Took me a little over two hours, and it was threatening to go into three, but I stopped myself before I ruined what I got right.

Even though it's cold and snowing today, yesterday was warm and sunny. So we caught some fireflies -- or lightning bugs -- in a jar.

Fairey Firefly WB518 was one of the first ten MK VI s built but still retains the earlier fuselage of the MK V. The aircraft was originally delivered to 817 Squadron. 817 Squadron then exchanged their aircraft for those of 816 Squadron for duty in Korea. The aircraft has been painted to represent WB377 which was loaned to 817 Squadron aboard HMAS Sydney by the Royal Navy for duty in Korea. The Australians had damaged most of their original aircraft in accidents. WB377 '201' in the commanding officer's colors was no exception being damaged in Typhoon Ruth in October of 1951. The wartime guise of 201 was chosen not only for aesthetics, but because it had most of the representative equipment of the period i.e. rocket rails, drop tanks, etc...

After being flown on the US airshow circuit for a decade, WB518 was damaged in a landing accident in 2012 due to a parts failure on the landing gear. The Firefly was returned to Q.G. Aviation in Colorado who completed the re-restoration in 2019. WB518 made a triumphant public return at Oshkosh 2019.

This aircraft is for sale, I think. When I heard this I got real excited and ran to my bank. I was so disappointed when I picked up my bank and shook it. I forgot that I had cashed in my coins recently. Anyway, I did not check to see what they are asking for this beauty, but probably more than 27 dollars and 13 cents. Maybe I can buy a plastic model kit.

Firefly - Mushroom Mansion

You would not believe your eyes, if ten million fireflies

lit up the world as I fell asleep...

Cause they'd fill the open air,

and leave tear drops everywhere.

You'd think me rude but I would just...

stand and stare.

I'd like to make myself believe...

That planet Earth turns, slowly.

It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep,

cause everything is never as it seems.

Just caught this guy at the right time!

I found this firefly larva crawling on the wall of a restroom at night in Madera Canyon, Arizona.

Grim tales by fairy lights,

We sat mesmerized, mesmerized.

Dancing iridescence,

In your eyes like fireflies…

Gosh I love that song, it originates from one of those underrated Indian bands that has produced timeless gems such as this one called Fireflies by Indus Creed. And this song just suddenly popped into my mind while I was busy clicking this shot. Well, it came out pretty good, I like the color tones and the focus I was able to achieve. This was snapped at the Garden Festival just a few days ago, held annually at the Garden Of Five Senses, New Delhi, India.
