Fireback of cast-iron dated 1723. This ornate fireback displays the initials GR under a crown for George 1st. Additionally there are snakes and winged cupids carrying sceptres topped with fleur-de-lis. A central figure is perhaps a portrayal of the person who had the piece made, the intials RR above may be a clue to his name. This is a nice period piece, like so much that is found in houses of this sort, demand further research. Note the Delft tiles behind and the interesting kettle and stand in the foreground.

This magnificent fireplace has been painted according to the true heraldic colours of the day. The naive looking caryatids look like indian princesses from the New World. Joggled joints have been used for the lintel and a cast-iron fireback, with the royal arms, completes the ensemble.
