Do not adjust your screens…there is nothing wrong with your computer. Yes I built a ‘70 Ford Pinto and yes the flames are going the wrong way…but on the Pinto it’s the right way. For those who don’t get why, let me explain. The Pinto made it onto Time Magazine’s list of 50 worst cars ever made because it had a catastrophic design flaw. Aside from being just plain weird looking, the gas tank would explode when hit, even during a low speed rear end collision. The Ford Motor Company knew about the problem, they even knew that it would cost only $11 per car (that’s $57 if accounted for today’s inflation) to fix the problem but elected not to. They figured it would be cheaper to pay for the inevitable lawsuits that would occur as a result of death or serious injury. They put a cost on human life and that cost was…less than $11. This callous indifference for safety in favor of profit generated substantial lawsuits against Ford and even criminal charges, resulting in the company losing millions and being forced to recall the entire Pinto line. This car was known as “the barbecue that seated four.”

As its been gutted and refurbished for drag racing, this particular barbecue seats only two. The engine has been amped up, racing tires were installed as well as a wheelie bar. There’s fire extinguishing equipment in the back, making this Pinto safer than it was when stock…and the whole thing opens like a true 70’s era funny car! This car is called Hot Flash and was built for the Fire And Ice

build challenge over at LUGNuts where we had to perfectly balance both opposing elements of fire and ice. You see the fire, but where’s the ice, you ask? Well the seats are a cool blue to remind you of ice but that’s hardly a perfect balance, so for this challenge, I teamed up with my buddy Nathan Proudlove. So check out his icy cool …Brain Freeze!which also graces the 50 worst cars ever made list!

It didn't work out to where I could get some direct sidelight on the ice, but this reflected light is still really nice.

Many of you remember the iconic Mirthmobile from, "Wayne's World," fame. The AMC Pacer featured in that film came complete with a licorice dispenser and a wicked soundtrack by Queen. I think that was actually the first time I heard, "Bohemian Rhapsody".

This Pacer doesn't have a licorice dispenser but it's fully tricked out with all the 'coolest' features for this month's Lugnuts challenge, "Fire and Ice." There is a monster sound system in the hatch accompanied by 20" LCD flat panel TV and a PS3 console. The stock motor has been swapped out for an inline 6 cylinder 4.0 liter Jeep engine. 18" rims front and rear complete the package for one icy cool ride.

Oh wait, what's that? I forgot to mention something? Ah yes, of course. What 1975 Pacer would be complete without lambo doors? The Pacer was remarkably ahead of its time actually, despite making the list of the 50 worst cars of all time. Heralded as the first wide-body compact car, the Pacer also featured a passenger door that was 4 inches longer than the driver side door for easier access to the back seat. This is nicely highlighted by the scissor door kit on the latest creation from Proudlove Design Studio; "Brain Freeze!"

Be sure to check out, "Hot Flash," from the twisted mind of Lino Martins, highlighting a 'hot' feature of another car that made the, "50 Worst," list.

This is an old shot of the Kingston II, the little tug that works the Mystic River and the Seaport. It is also how Santa arrives in Mystic early each December. This was taken in early December of 2003. Somehow the EXIF data got stripped from the photo when I brought it over from my old gallery (Eclectic Images). I realized though that I had not shared this here yet and wanted to use it as n online greeting card for all our friends and family. (Yes true to tradition I am behind in getting out actual greeting cards...maybe in time for Orthodox Christmas)

This image was created as part of a weekly challenge with the theme of Hot/Cold by the Macro Mondays group on FLICKR. Essentially, the challenge was to take a macro of something either hot, cold or both hot and cold. As I did not want to do another macro of a hot fudge sundae (healthier pix? lol), I decided to try the hot and cold.

This image got accepted and won BEST in SHOW for the Frederick Camera Clique Juried Exhibition. Show runs at FCC July thru Sep 2012. YAY!!!

What better way to celebrate Christmas than going out with the family and lighting things on fire¿?

An ice sculpture of the Lititz Fire & Ice festival is seen brightly illuminated in this thirteen minute exposure. The image was made of 126 six second exposures (121 @ f/11 and 5 @ f/22, Canon T6s, Canon 8-15 mm f/4L lens @ 9mm, ISO 200) A couple of stars can be seen with their subtle star trails near the tree.

A Sad Day In Toronto:

The historic part of Toronto was ravaged by a 6 alarm fire this Wednesday morning that destroyed most of the south side of the west end block.

This is one of the pics I took today, I also interviewed the Toronto city councillor, Adam Vaughan as he explains how he plans to rebuild the city's historic Art district.

It is my very first published video footage and you can hear my voice, very briefly, at the very begining of the video prompting the start of the interview.

The article I wrote also made top story in the News

Read The Story and be sure to click on the small video clip footage.

Marcíe wisely avoids the busloads of tourists that converge at the café near Jökulsárlón. While they are busy drinking coffee by the litre and stealing sugar packets, she takes in the natural splendour and beauty and generously shares some of hers.

The ground was covered in white, fluffy snow after a cataclysm of electrical activity raced across the night sky. Post storm, I ran outside and looked up to see a calm, pitch black sky and the beginning of twinkling lights that began to multiply by the thousands across the vast, black platform above me.

I saw them shoot straight down to the earth below and land in a pile of snow not twenty feet from where I stood. I stared with mesmerized delight as that snowy pile began to illuminate brilliantly before my eyes with multiple, glowing colors. I sifted through that soft, billowy pile and picked up what looked like radiant stars. They weren't stars at all; they were Electric Snow, each flake filled with luminescent colors of the sun and blinding colors of the rainbow.

They said it came only once in a lifetime, and that very few ever witnessed it. They said if you tasted it, you would understand what sunbursts and winter rainbows tasted like. They were right.

May your holidays be filled with magic, and may your winters be Sunburst and Snowblind.
