Shot for Smile on Saturday

Theme: Portray Movie- Finding Nemo

Any Guess as to Movie: Tough theme.

Cell shot

Posted in honor of the Azzurri (the Blues), who won the EURO 2020 championship yesterday. My condolencese to all England fans. You have waited too long and this team's talent is certainly more than worthy.

These blue tang (Acanthurus coeruleus) are probably the bluest of the fish on the reef. (Though they are yellow when they are juvenile.) They often form large schools (like a football team) as they meander through the reef feeding at various coral heads. It is super fun to watch, in part because they allow for a close approach.

Normally I would have liked to have my wide-angle lens, but on this dive I made do with the macro.

In the movie Finding Nemo, Dory is a tang, but of the Pacific variety.

Clownfish have adapted to life on the reef by developing a symbiotic relationship with the anemones. Clownfish are small and would be preyed upon by larger fish if they were not living within and protected by the stinging tentacles of the anemone. The clownfish is covered with a specialized mucous that gives it immunity from the sting cells on the host anemone. Safe within the anemone tentacles, the clownfish can feed on planktonic organisms that float by. Clownfish live in small groups inhabiting a single anemone. The group consists of a dominant breeding pair cohabiting with a few non-reproductive adult and juvenile clownfish. They aggressively defend their territory, bullying others away from their host anemone.

-- Clownfish Fun Facts --

‧ Clownfish rarely stray more than a few feet from their host anemone.

‧ The characters in the movie “Finding Nemo” are false percula clownfish.

‧ There are 28 known species of clownfish.

‧ While clownfish are unharmed by the stinging cells of an anemone, they are not immune to jellyfish stings.

‧ Clownfish are up to three and a half inches long.

‧ They most often have color patterns in orange, red or black with white bars or patches.

A great little hiding place for this fish... but I can still see him, can you?

Bruce took a much needed vacation from the ocean... it’s part of his intervention program and helps with his fish addiction.

I am fascinated with the lovely postbox toppers that have been appearing on postboxes all over the UK. Patterns can be bought online to knit/crochet these. I admire the work and dedication that has gone into them to bring a smile to someone's face as they post their mail.

This one was not far from where I live and I was fortunate to catch it in the sunlight......only to learn a few days later it had been stolen!!! (no words)

Macro Mondays - Blue and Orange

Hi to all my flickr friends, just got back from a 4 weeks holiday to Indonesia (Sumatra, Java and Bali). Did a lot of travelling, sight seeing and enjoyed it all. Will especially rememeber the kind people and the beautiful landscape, both under and above water.

Clown anemonefish (Amphiprion ocellaris) on a giant carpet anemone (Stichodactyla gigantea).

This fish was the main character in the Disney/Pixar film Finding Nemo. It's a colourful and photogenic tropical reef fish that has got a symbiotic relationship with sea anemones.

The identifying of this fish is quite difficult because it's nearly identical to the Orange clownfish aka True percula clownfish (Amphiprion percula). I used FishBase native distribution map (www.fishbase.org) to make a positive ID.

I just love how my Nikon D300 performs in low light. This image and the next few that I will post are from the Finding Nemo show at Walt Disney's Animal Kingdom. These shots were taken with my 80-200 f/2.8 at 2.8 and in auto ISO. Most images ended up being shot at ISO 3200 with a few as low as ISO 1250.

Fish is pronouncing similar to the word remainder in Chinese, It means also surplus or profit. It is a good symptom to see fish in Chinese customs especially in the new year.

I wish all of you good fortune and good surplus in the new year of 2021!

I had a walk in the neighbourhood after the rain tappers off in the afternoon.

Va costar força fotos enquadrar bé els protagonistes de Buscant en Nemo (2003), però aquí teniu en Marlin i la Dori! En efecte, es tracta d'un peix pallasso i un peix cirugià blau al Aquari de Barcelona.

The ever wonderful folks at The Pixar Times asked me to contribute to their long running Pixart feature.

I couldn't pick just ONE movie to pull from, so like a kid on Halloween I went all out and am pleased to report no cavities as a result.

There's something from every short or and film up until spring 2011, so stay a while have a gander!
