MH-60S Crow 11 finals for landing Runway 10 at Lossiemouth.

Actresses getting ready for a show at the Palace Theater in Albany, NY

It's New Year's Eve here in Japan, and while I don't normally make new year resolutions, I have decided that in 2026 I'm going to stick with monochrome and not try to shoot any more color. I haven't decided whether or not to keep the Q3, but for the time being it's going back on the shelf. I hope everyone has a great 2026.

The final loaded Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus Train rolls through the Harrison station and into New York City behind two ACS-64 locomotives, including #642.

The other train was already empty and getting ready to head South by this time, and it was strange to think this would be the final time we'd get to see circus performers waving from their vestibules as the train passed by. I'm not sure if those on the platform waiting for the subway were aware of this.

New York was the place to be on this day, as we managed to not only catch both RBBB circus trains, but the James E. Strates carnival train as well.

Life is tough! Sometimes things just overpower you with negative shit and it’s hard to see the way out. Our culture doesn’t really offer men a good way to deal with this and sadly I have experienced friends that couldn’t see a way forward! If only I had made more effort, gone for that walk or cycle or pint, offered some empathy and kindness and given some time!

I personally have several socially acceptable escapist coping mechanisms for such difficulties, but I personally desire change! Maybe I’m having a midlife crisis, maybe I just need to make some changes in my life, but I know I cannot continue doing things the way I have.

Last year I went on an ‘Action for Happiness’ course and it was based on positive Phycology derived from many Buddhist ideas. It was great! But I need to continue to work at it! Compassion, understanding, intimacy, empathy, helping others and community are things I need to foster more of and especially towards others that need it.

Anyway life is a journey and at the moment I’m not sure of its destination, but I’m sure that I know I’m going to try and look into the moment and focus on a different terminus. Once I’m over the brow I intend to freewheel the other side, trying not to apply the brakes and enjoying the inevitable acceleration towards my final destination.

After its last service run, the final D Stock is seen at Ealing Common on an empty move to Acton depot.

After this, the D Stock was only used for the Railtour, though a few carriages survive as the Vivarail D Train.

Steamrail locomotives K153 and Y112 pass the site of Warrenheip station on their last return shuttle to Ballarat.

Once a busy junction with a station, sidings and a signal box, Warrenheip is little more than a marker on a map these days. With the decline in regional freight traffic, the rationalisation of regional rail and the increasing centralisation and automation of train control, Warrenheip station was gradually phased out of use, starting with the closure of the station in 1981.

The junction of the lines from Ballarat to Geelong and Melbourne was established in 1879 was abolished in 1995, and the double track main line to Ballarat converted to parallel single main lines. With no passenger services and no junction the facilities were quickly razed and the roads and parking were recovered by nature. Today there's little to indicate that this was once a hive of activity.

With the onset of the most recent batch of SD70MAC rebuilds, now diving into the 4700 series, CSX has made the decision to begin storing all of their active dash 8s and dash 9s, with the goal to supposedly have them all stored by the end of March. As probably the biggest fan of these engines, this news was extremely saddening to me. Not all was immediately lost, however, as one of the holdouts was running only an hour away from home. C40-8WM #7807 has been living on CSX's W&W Subdivision for roughly a month now, going back and forth on L231 and L233 from Pigford Yard in Warsaw to the respective destinations of Rocky Mount and Clinton/Rose Hill. Knowing that this could very well be the last chance I have to see an active CSX dash 8, I've gone out twice now to document its final stand in relative obscurity in eastern North Carolina. This was my winning shot of it, seen climbing up the hill out of Dudley on L231-13. 7807 is one of the more unique units, sporting high mounted ditchlights like an AC44, and also having an EMD style bell. The dash 8s have soldiered on into 2024, but this very well could be the last year we see them running. Only time will tell.

An old Ford F-3 work truck put to pasture.

Still experimenting with light, this time at Barrow Hill with Timeline Events.

The North Midland Railway reached Staveley by 1841 when the original Barrow Hill station opened on April 6th. It closed on November 15th 1888 and with the opening of the Clowne and Mansfield branch the new station opened the same date. The station was renamed "Barrow Hill & Staveley Works". An engine shed was built near the station in 1865 with a capacity for four engines.

In 1866 the Midland Railway signed an agreement with Staveley Works whereby they purchased and would operate the works internal private railway for 100 years. The vast increase in traffic created a need for more locomotives and a much larger shed. The result was the present Roundhouse.

The former steam roundhouse located at Barrow Hill near Chesterfield, is a unique example of 19th century railway architecture. It is the last surviving operational roundhouse engine shed in Great Britain.

Construction commenced in July 1869 and it was completed in November 1870. The Midland Railway Company contracted I.E. Hall to build the depot. The final cost being £16,445 4s 9d. It comprises 24 roads of which the longest is 80 feet and the shortest 60 feet. Following the opening in 1870 it was in continuous use until it finally closed its doors in 1991 after a working life of 121 years.

When the Midland Railway introduced their system of shed codes in 1898, Barrow Hill was given the code M24. This was later changed by the LMS to 18D in 1935. In February 1958 it changed again to 41E when the area was taken over by the Eastern region of British Railways. On October 4th 1965 after the depot closed its doors to steam it was given the code letters BH.

Finally got the combo the way I want it...for now.

This traditional biscuit box house in Burnt Point, Conception Bay, Newfoundland has seen it's final days. It looks like the top floor has totally collapsed. I'm not sure if the outer walls have collapsed on both sides or someone is attempting to tear it down. Either way this old place looks done. Must have been a great property in its day, with a nice full view of the surrounding area and community.

As we were doing the final clean up of the yard today, we saw this one remaining bumblebee on the last remaining gaillardia. He was moving rather slow, as it was a bit chilly out, but the never the less, I manged to squeeze off a few shots before he slowly climbed down and disappeared into the undergrowth.

Down goes the American Lumberjack, for winning final round for the Canadian team.It was a great show and these guys were both entertaining and great at their skills! The overall competition was won by the Canadian Team with the most wins per race and skill in the Lumberjack games! A fun time!
